Military Newlywed

I was wondering if anyone had any advice for a new military wife who is not living on a base. Anything would help! Thanks :)

Re: Military Newlywed

  • I used to be in the Navy and was married for a little while to someone in the military.  What kind of advice are you looking for?
  • I'm a Marine and my husband is as well.  We live off base as well.  Let us know what specific advice you would like, and we'll try to help you out as much as possible.
  • I'm a Navy wife, we're going to be living in base housing though, just let us know your questions.. we'll try to help.
  • I am a Navy WIfe. My DH has been gone since May.
  • sdsu, i didn't realize your husband was enlisted in the navy; i thought he was a civilian working for the government.  i should have paid attention.  sorry!

doesn't he get to come home soon?  i bet you're excited!

  • Its a weird situation. He is not a civillian, but he is not enlisted either...I do not know how to explain it. He can get orders at any moment and has a military ID card...we travel through military travel and can shop on base...really, I am not even sure how to explain it. There are only 2 positions like his in the whole Navy...
  • Well I was wondering how you guys deal with moving to a new area and not knowing anyone. We have not had a lot of luck meeting new people. It has been really weird for me cuz back home I had my family around and friends now I know no one.
  • I'm not military but I have moved to new places where I have not known anyone before.  Are you working?  Sometimes that helps to meet other people.  You could try volunteering or joining a church.

  • I would try what the previous poster suggested. Try a new church, volunteering, going to a GTG on this board. I know the ladies on here have a few.

I'll be new in San Diego too in Feb, and I'll only know my cousin who lives there now, and she's in the Navy Reserves and her husband is Marines.

I hope to meet some of the ladies off the board at a GTG. I know it's hard to meet other ladies when you come from having family and friends around to not knowing anyone.

  • littlemc, are you living in sd now?  there's a gtg on the 31st of this month.  i don't hike, but i'm giving it a try!  come join us.
  • Thank you so much for the advice those are some good ideas.

    ?

Princesskl, I am living in Sd right now. The hike tgt sounds like it would be fun, where are you hiking at???

  • not sure yet.  i believe justles is coming up w/ some places to chose from.  hope you'll join us.  :)
