XP from my home board....
(In advance, please forgive any spelling or grammar errors... I'm panicking!)
So I was just about to shut down my computer for the night, anda little error popped up inthe corner that says "Windows security alert: windows reports that computer is infected. Antivirus software helps to protect your vomputer against viruses and other security threats. Click here for the scan you computer. Your system might be at risk now."
I notice that this message is attached to a program called "Antivirus Soft". I keep telling it to close, that I don't want to install its program, but it keeps coming back. I tried looking for it in my programns list to uninstall it but its not there. Lots of things are happeninga t once. There's a window that says "application cannot be executed. The file searchfilterhost.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?"
A second one, posing as a windows alert, details an "infiltration alert". Another one in part says "attention! spyware alert!" A third, again posing as a windows securitycenter keeps popping up. I opened up my IE to search for the program name, and it just opens up a website designed again to look likea windows alert telling me to install their software. No matter what website I try to go to, this happens (I'm on my Mom's computer now because I can't do anything with nmine.). Now a second window has popped up and automatically redirected to "porno.org".
I'm running my Norton Antivirus, but sof ar it hasn't found anything. This is obviously a virus, right? What do I do???
Re: Urgent Computer Help Needed!!!
Update your Norton Virus Definitions and run a full scan. It might be a good idea to run the scan while in safe mode.
Norton should come up with something. If it can only quarantine it, but not remove it, do a search for the virus name. Symantec usually posts directions on how to remove specific threats, sometime with a program that will do the removal.
In the future, make sure your virus definitions are always up to date and that you're running frequent scans. And stop visiting sketchy sites.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?
Norton is the not the best antivirus software out there. My husband works on computers and he puts AVG on all the ones that he fixes. He says it takes care of everything and the best part is it is free.
Go to AVG.com and download the free version. There is one you can pay for but the free one works just as well. Why pay for something when it is free. This is all we use on our computers and we never have a problem.
