Passports--Quick Question

I can't remember who works in the passport office, but I was wondering what the turn-around time has been recently.  I know it is normally 3-6 weeks.  H and I are looking at vacations and he needs to apply for one.  I have to fill out the form and do the name change on mine still.

Thanks!

Re: Passports--Quick Question

  • My sister applied for one in October and it took four weeks to come in the mail.
  • That's me!

The website never changes... it always says the same thing. In reality, it takes about 4 weeks for a routine DS-11 (first time applicant, no extra expedite fees, apply at the post office or library) and about 2.5 weeks for a DS-82 (renewal/name change sent in the mail from your home).

APPLY NOW! Like this week. We had an all staff meeting yesterday and we were told passport fees are increasing. The Dept. of State has to publish the proposed new fees in the Washington Register to give the public a 30 day notice (maybe 60 days, we are not sure yeat) which means we are going to get a TON of applications in the next 2 months so people can get their passports at the current fee, not the new one.

....I still have to renew mine with my married name, and I have no excuse why it isn't done yet. All I need to do is get pictures and bring them in with me, lol.

FYI: you can only use the name change form (DS-3053) if your passport was issued LESS THAN 1 year ago. If it has been more than a year, you have to fill out the renewal form (DS-82) and pay the $75 fee.

P.S- I just looked at your wedding planning bio (gorgeous pics!) and I am 99% sure that I know you. That is, if you went to RU-C & traveled to Ireland w/my husband (Ray) during Spring Break 2005. If not, you have a twin running around South Jersey, lol.

  • Thank you so much for all of the info!  My passport is 7 years old so I know I have to do the renewal form.  I have to find mine again (not sure where I put it when we moved).  I think H may go to the County Store this weekend to apply.  After your warning we need to get moving on this!  We don't want to get stuck waiting 2 months for them or paying higher fees.

Is this Becky?  I definitely remember you from RU-C.  Your girls are so adorable!  Say hi to Ray for me.

    Yup, it's me -- and I will! =)
