Men's Khaki pants, need recs...

Steve's new job requires business casual dress...his last two jobs he was allowed to wear pretty much whatever he wanted, so his wardrobe in the business casual area is lacking.

If your DH wears khakis/chinos to work, can you rec. a brand/store?  We would prefer something that looks a bit current, meaning not pleated and w/o tapered legs (which is all we ever seem to find).

Strange request I know, but thanks for any help :)

Re: Men's Khaki pants, need recs...

  • Have you looked at the Lands End section of Sears? If you can't find the exact style in the store they have all kinds of variations online and in the catalog. That is where I have been getting clothes for my Steve lately.  He likes their button down shirts.

I have picked up the nice dockers at Macys too. I found an awesome pair of Ralph Lauren pants (soft, nicely tailored) at Gabe's but that is so hit and miss.

Does your Steve buy pants without trying them on?  My Steve never tries things on it drives me crazy.

  • My Steve is a bit of a hard fit...he'd kill me for sharing this, but he has wide hips which can sometimes cause his pants to pull across the front...so trying stuff on is usually a must, especially if I'm with him.  I'm not against ordering online though as long as I can easily return the items in-store (not a huge fan of having to send stuff back through the mail if I don't have to).

I will def. check the Land's End area in Sears and online, that's an easy place to get to for me.  I was looking at a few pairs of pants on JCP.com...their Arizona khakis (he has a few pairs of Arizona jeans and they fit him really well) and they had a few diff. styles of Dockers that look more hip, lol.  Our Boscov's usually carries a lot of diff. brands, but for some reason they all seem geared towards older men if that makes sense.  They do carry RL so I'll have to see if I can find any nice pants on sale or clearance, their reg. priced stuff is a bit too rich for my blood.

Thanks for your help, I have a bit more direction now.

  • Dh gets almost all of his khakis from Lands End, especially since they will hem them to any length you want for free (which my Dh always needs).  They also wear really well, you can get the kind that are wrinkle free (great for us since we don't iron!), and they are inexpensive compared to many brands.

The Bass outlet seems to carry a lot of chinos, too.

  • DH wears the Dockers No Iron ones from JCP.  We usually only buy them on sale though since they are a bit expensive.

  • The ones I think Matt likes best are from the  JCrew outlet.  Matt has the opposite problem with Gap khaki's-- some times they are baggy across the hips so those may be a good fit for Steve.  He also has a pair of Dockers from JCP that fit nicely.

Sounds like we need to check out Lands End.  The hem for free is enticing.  Anyone know if they are wider around the ankle...not tapered?

  • He never has luck w/ Gap bottoms, but we'll try again just incase they changed the cut or something.  It's been a while since he's attempted anything in that store other than t-shirts.

Jill, thanks for reminding me about the Bass outlet...he had some pants from there that he really liked and fit him perfectly.  We'll have to check that out as well.

    J. Crew outlet is a good idea too.  I wish the Geoffrey Beene outlet in Hershey didn't lose :(  He's always had luck w/ GB.
