grrrr

6let got kicked out of Daycare 1 for biting right before I resigned.  I had to scramble to find care, pay the registration fee, and then take him out a month later.  I understood the other parents' frustration (anger), but was made at how the daycare never talked to me or tried to work with us and find a solution.

I ran into a worker there.  She had him in the mornings until the provider for the infant room got there.  She had the next room up which started at 18 months.  She told me she had wanted to move 6let up to her room.  He was 13 months, but she thought he'd be okay.  It would separate him and the bitees and get him around some older kids for stimulation etc.

The director wouldn't do.  Director, who never spent time with him, said he wasn't ready.  Director never even gave me this option.  SHE thought he couldn't do it.

What room was 6let in at the new center? 18 months.  He did really well there too.  Bastards.  I should ask them to reimburse my registration fee at the other place...oh wait daycare 1 went out of business.

  • I feel you.  We've been having daycare issues since December and I'm *thisclose* to finding a new one for DD.  I told the director I'd give her two weeks of rational thought on my end, if she could resolve the problems.  After two weeks, the irrational part of me could put DD in a new daycare or call the Health Dept. for violations.

  • That sounds serious Nico.

I'm glad we don't have to deal anymore.  The whole family is happier.

  • I only have two issues:

    (1) In the mornings, there isn't enough staff to watch the infants and the 1 year olds, so they put all of them in one room until the 1 y.o. teacher arrives.  Doing this creates a 6 or 8:1 ratio, but the daycare's policy and the state require a 4:1 ratio max.  This is a new development since they had a part-time infant teacher quit at the end of the year.  Just b/c the director is short staffed from 7am - 8am is not my problem.  I also pay the highest rate b/c she's an infant in a low-ratio room.  I'm not paying more so that one teacher can be bogged down with extra kids.  Hell, I'd even be happy to pay more to comp the expense of a teacher in the 1 y.o. room for an hour in the morning.

I told the director I felt I was reasonable - I knew there would be (and there have been) some major staff adjustments and it would take time for the kinks to be worked out.  But I've given it 6 weeks.  In 6 weeks, there's still no schedule that works.  So I complained.  The director, who doesn't come in til 9am, was horrified.  But since my complaint last Friday, the room has been over 4:1 twice.  And both times I complained again.  I don't think DD is being neglected, but I also don't think she needs to be in a room where 1-2 year olds are stepping on her or where her teacher's attention is compromised b/c she's watching mobile toddlers.

    (2)  The 1 y.o. teacher was covering for the infant teacher's lunch one afternoon and left DD (6 months) in a high chair with a bottle to feed herself.  We've been working on sippy cups at home, but DD has no idea how to feed herself a bottle.  Not to mention, the entire time DD was fussing and spilling breastmilk all over the place.  Allegedly, the 1 y.o. teacher was reading a book while this was going on.  So when the infant teacher came back, yelled at the 1 y.o. teacher and then fed DD, her bottle was short.

When I expressed my concern about it, of course there was a lot of she said, she said about it.  I told the director to look at the tape and sort out her employees.   I'm not going to get into the middle of it, but I'm also not going to have a teacher leave my kid angry and hungry in a high chair so that she can read a book.

Sorry that was so long.  I like to vent.

Like I said, I'm giving it 2 weeks.  If nothing changes in 2 weeks, DD's out of there.  I told the director, "There's a daycare ACROSS THE DAMN STREET.  It's not like you're my only option.  I came here b/c I felt more comfortable having DD here.  Please don't give me a reason to take her to another center."

  • Damn, Nico. I'd be pissed, too. Good for you for standing up for DD.

  • That first one is MAJOR.  You are being more than fair.  I'm sorry you're in this situation.  Good luck.

  • All it takes is 2 seconds for something to go wrong, and with a ratio like 8:1, it just might.  I wouldn't hesitate to call CPS or DHS or whoever needs to know that they're in violation.

I worked in a daycare center years ago.  The ratios are put in place for a reason and they are law.  I don't understand how they think this is ok because "it's just an hour".  It's not safe and it's not fair to the parents of those kids.

And I'd be livid about the high chair incident.  This is also not ok and NOT SAFE.  You can't put an infant in a high chair and walk away.  I'd have ripped everyone who works there a new azzhole already.  Hell, I'm piissed for you right now.

Being on accessible video stream isn't enough motivation for these pieces of scht to take proper care of the children?  This is sad.
