Change iPhone text alert?

Is this possible?

I've googled and found ways that I don't think are good ways to go about doing it. There is mention of jail breaking and others...sheesh. no thanks on that!

I am trying to change the alert tune/sound/tone for my text messages.

On the phone go into settings,sounds,new text message.

If you want something other than what the phone comes with I have no idea on that.

Yes, I wanted something other than the default ones that the phone comes with. 

Ex. I can change my ringtone to a downloaded ring that I have.  Can I do that with a text as well?

Yes.

Settings -> New text message -> and then select the tone you want.

 

I'm not sure if it'll let you do that with a downloaded tone, though.

But if you jail break your phone, there IS an app you can download to change the message tone.

But you can factory reset....
