Can someone tell me what the point of a leaf-blower is??

I say this half serious - I know what a leaf-blower is.... but seriously, WTH is the point of one?

I just watched as my 88 year old neighbor blew his entire yard of leaves into the street and onto my property. I'm not about to go out there and give him a piece of my mind for doing so (I think I let a lot of things slide because of his age)... but as I saw him doing it I thought to myself... "WTF were these stupid things invented for!?" So that one neighbor can schlep off his raking responsibilties onto the other neighbors by blowing leaves onto other properties and into the street? UGH! I wish these stupid things would be taken off the market. I see them used all the time and I don't understand it.

The leaf-vac type things, I understand those. They make perfect sense. But leaf blowers.... really.... what is the point?

Thanks for letting me vent. I know I've never posted on this board before, but I felt this was the most appropriate place to vent about this topic lol.

  • Unless he lives in a state where the city picks up his leaves, they're supposed to be for blowing into a pile so you can then shovel them into a bag.

  • As the PP said, its the same idea as a rake.  It blows leaves into manageable piles so you can put them in bags.
  • We use one to clean off our carport and deck quickly.  We also use it to clean our blacktopped lot at the lake.
  • haha. I never post on here either. I was just lurking bc I'm thinking of starting some landscaping/gardening work, but I'm a complete idiot when it comes to growing anything. I always thought the purpose was to wake my daughter up when she's napping. My neighbor has an uncanny ability to time it just right... totally don't see the point since they are so darn loud.
