Childbirth (etc) classes at North Central Baptist?

Anyone taken or signed up to take any of these classes? Just wondering how worthwhile they are... we have to sign up in advance and bc of Matt's schedule, I have no way of predicting if he'll be in town (in October) or not... They're pretty cheap and I figure it won't hurt to take any or all...??The prepared childbirth class is 12 hrs (spread out over 4 week.) That's a lot of time... ! $25

There is one 3 hour baby care class that I figure it couldn't hurt to take... $10

Breast-feeding class? Necessary? I have a book, lol... $10

Finally there is a New Dads class (3 hrs) that is free. We have 4 friends with babies all due around the same time as our little one. I thought it might be fun if the future dads took it.?

Just looking for some feedback... any of these classes worthwhile or "musts" in your opinion??

Thanks for your thoughts!

  • We took the all day saturday childbirth class and really thought it was worth it. You learn tidbits here and there and our instructor was good. Make sure you bring a sweater, it gets cold in that room.

We are taking the baby care and the car seat one. I won't be able to BF, so  we won't be taking that.

I would go, with the prices, why not?:)

  • That's kinda what I think.. can't hurt!

Which class was all day Saturday? How long was it? (just trying to figure out the difference between that and the 12 hr class.) I mean, do I really need a 12 hr class on childbirth?! That's a looong time... ?

  • I am taking the all day Saturday version of the Prepared Childbirth class.

I am also taking a breastfeeding class and a child care class. I figured those were only $10... why not?

Maybe we'll end up in a class together! I would post the dates I am taking but there are creepy stalker types who might see...

  • It was a Saturday class from 9-6. We had 45 mins for lunch. I was thinking the same thing- what could they possibly talk about for that long? But, you would be surprised!

The afternoon felt a little longer than the morning, but I would do it again.

  • My coworker took the 4 week and said some of the info was good, some was not and some she forgot about when the time came. She said that they made the dads put on the pregnant belly and that alone was worth it. She also liked that they got a tour of the hospital and knew what to expect the day of. They covered breathing and pushing and breast feeding.

  • We took the car seat class today and had a different teacher- younger lady with 3 kids. We were not that pleased with it. We would have been happier if she just installed our car seats today, but we had to make an appt. for next week. She came across as a know it all and kinda snapped at me when I did not read the label on the car seat she gave me. We were supposed to go to the baby care one afterwards, but when I learned she was teaching it, I was like nah, nevermind. She talks too much, too.

Sorry to be a negative nelly. We just had a really great experience with the birthing class with the other teacher...not this one.

It was not horrible, just left kinda irritated.
