Please share your M/S cure

You know me.  I am beyond thrilled to be pregnant.  I am happy for every sign that I have to remind me that Baby A is truly on his/her way to us!

But I could sure use your help with some morning (afternoon, evening) sickness remedies.  I am usually a terrific eater, and now if I can get down one meal and a snack in a day, it's a good day.  This was my first PG symptom - I started having morning sickness on 7/15 and we got our BFP on 7/19.  So, in a sick way, I appreciate the symptom - but I wouldn't mind some relief...

Thank you in advance!!

Re: Please share your M/S cure

  • The best things for me were gum, eating a little bit all the time...sounds weird but don't let yourself get too hungry, also Preggie pop drops...they are little candies that really worked for me.  I got them on ebay and Motherhood.  Good Luck!!!  It does get better....
  • Some women find keeping some saltines or something by the side of  the bed helpful. Eat a few before you get out of bed if you are getting sick immediately when getting up.

Keep it bland, don't force it- if you can graze throughout the day, that's fine too.

Wish I had more insight for you!

  • i agree with keeping the crackers near the bed. Dont get up until you have a few.  Snacking on bland things during the day helped me.  I also kept some lifesavers at my desk as things to suck on.  I noticed when I got TOO hungry, i felt more sick.

Pretty much, while this is at it's worst, find a food (whatever it may be) that works for you and stick to it.  Throw different things in every now and again until you start to feel better.  But like everyone said, dont let yourself get too hungry.  It seems to make it worse.

  • Gingersnaps have become my best friends.  They seem to instantly calm my tummy.  That and ice cold water.  I semi freeze grapes and eat those too.  I find getting too full makes it worse for me.  So I have been eating half a meal/snack at a time.  If I'm still hungry I'll wait about an hour then eat a little bit again.

PS- I send you an e-mail to your magic wand account.  Did you happen to get it?  I only ask because my work e-mail has been acting funky.  Sometimes my mail doesn't go through, even when it tells me it does.

  • Zofran was the only thing that worked for me....good luck!

**Edit** I should say, I had ridiculously bad m/s.  I lost a ton of weight and none of the standard remedies worked.  I tried the small, frequent eating, bland food, B6 supplementation, sea-bands, ginger ale, preggie pops, etc.  NOTHING worked.

  • Ginger thins/snap cookies and ginger ale worked wonders for me.
  • Polar brand "real" ginger ale. ?Protein before bed (cheese). ?Sea-band bracelet was a lifesaver (got mine at Walgreens) ?Crackers all the time too...
  • A mom in my mom's group mentioned that she used those SEA BANDS for montion sickness when she was PG and they really worked.

  • I didn't really have it the way you're describing.  Instead, I would wake up wicked nauseous, like I had a gross hangover or something.  I would eat and it would go away.  At night, same thing.  It didn't last long.  It literally just disappeared when I was around 7 or 8 weeks, I think.  But I heard that eating saltine crackers before you even get out of bed is helpful.
  • Definitely eat something before you get out of bed. I couldn't stomach saltines, but graham crackers worked for me. Lemonade or lemon-flavored propel also helped - I couldn't handle any carbonated beverage throughout my pregnancy
  • I had it bad too and also gagged pretty much 24-7!  I tried everything and finally found that Jolly Ranchers did the trick!  I carried them everywhere and I popped em like they were going out of style!  I got a huge bag 2x and have some left LOL I can send em your way though they may not make the mail in the heat LOL!  I am so stinking happy for you Kristin, I have a huge grin on my face just thinking about you with your m/s and a BABYYYYY cookin away in there!!!!!!!!!!!! OMGGGGGG!
  • I think its hit or miss with everyone.  I never ate saltines but real ginger ale and pineapple.  I was surprised by pineapple but then some people were saying that the reason that Chinese food restaurants give you pineaplle at the end is because it naturally calms your stomach.  It works wonders for me.
  • Thank you for all of your tips - I am going to try everything (except the ginger ale - which gives me migraines).  You all rock!
  • A lot of people swear by real ginger.  I tried all of the suggestions people mentioned & nothing worked for me besides Zofran.  Another common suggestion is unisom.  There is something in there that is supposed to help, but check w/ your OB b/c I think it is only like 1/2 tab or something like that.  If nothing works, ask for an Rx.

Make sure you are staying hydrated!!
