awww...crap :-(

So I'm doing some minor touchups on the nursery and Ben's man den (don't worry, it's only little bits and the rooms are well ventilated). One of the things I'm touching up are the doors to both rooms (the backs of the doors were painted but not the fronts). The doors are a kind of coffee color, and we went through the paint tins that the previous owner left in the shed until we found the one that we thought matched.

I used it this morning and noticed that it looked a little different to the paint on the doors, but figured it was just because it was wet. Nope. It's dry now and looks significantly darker. And therefore the doors look ridiculously patchy (not even in a "oh is that slightly different?" but in a "Whoa! WTF is wrong with that paint???" way).

I went through the other paint tins again until I found one that looked similar again to the doors - and it is, but it's lighter. Took me a while to figure out that the previous owner mixed those two shades of brown together to do the doors and trim, but didn't actually save any of the mixed color - just the two separate colors. Which means it will be nearly impossible to actually match the color of the doors.

Which means the entire freaking door and trim for each room have to be repainted, which also means the door to the bathroom (which is right next to - as in the trim of each door actually touches each other - the nursery) will also have to be re-done, since it's the same color as the other two and it would look strange to have the first two doors in the hall be one color and the third a different color entirely.

*sob* I thought we were done with painting. I hate this. Crying

ETA: well, here's a little good news - after a little experimenting, it looks like we won't have to paint the bathroom door after all. It's in a shadowy area of the hall, and if we use the lighter paint (which is closer in color to the mixed paint) then I think it will be passable. Silver lining, I guess.
