What's the name of the company that delivers food

I remember reading about it (last year, maybe?). It's kind of like a CSA but its one comany and they deliver all over the place. I only vaguley remember how it works -- I didn't pay close attention because I had a great CSA, but now that my new town doesn't have a good one...I need something else.

Also, I've never been to the farmers market. My mom said the one she goes to tends to be ridiculously overpriced (like $6 for a canteloupe) which does not work with my minature grocery budget. Do you tend to find good sales at the market, or is it pretty pricy?

  • The only delivery services I know of are local to my area so I can't help you there.

I've been to a handful of farmer's markets in my area and one is definitely more expensive than the rest of them but it's in a trendier area so I'm sure that has something to do with it.  The farmer's market we go to is definitely cheaper than getting organic produce at the co-op.   The first thing that comes to mind is basil - we can get a huge bunch of it at the farmer's market for $1.  The same amount at the co-op would easily be at least $10.  We haven't signed up for a CSA because we like going to the market and it's cheaper for us to do it that way.

  • All of our delivery services are exclusive just to our local area- can't help you out there.

I've shopped at Farmer's Markets since I've been in college and they are always way cheaper than at the grocery store or local co-op- even in the more expensive cities I've lived in. $6 sounds a little pricey for a melon- if that was the case, I just wouldn't buy the melon :)- Perhaps some things might be expensive, but overall, I save a lot of $$ by shopping at the farmer's markets

  • In my area, the Farmers Market is about the same, pricewise, as shopping entirely at our specialty, "good for you only" food store.

This is our experience also.  During the height of the summer season though, when everything is plentiful, you can get some really great deals.  That $6 melon was probably at the start of the season, so not many vendors had melons, hence the farmer who does have them can ask a higher premium for them.  The price *should* come down once every farmer is selling melons.  So I buy basil for $2 for a huuugge bunch in June and make pesto in bulk, rather than paying $4-5 in April or September when there's not as much of it available.

  • I think it's called Peapod.
  • I was thinking of Farm Fresh To You I think...sadly, it too is not available in my area. Boo
