Re: 2/22 success

  • DH. He's given me the confidence to go for my dreams and makes me feel like I'm smart enough and capable of doing it. Before him, I never thought much of myslef and definietly would not be an engineer nor opening our own company today.
  • I would say my maternal grandmother and mother (I know I said just one...) have helped me most.

Both felt very strongly about me getting a college education and at least a master's degree.  They supported me emotionally and financially every step of the way.

  • My mom, in different ways.  When I was young she instilled so much discipline in me with regard to school/education.  Because we didn't have homework in first and second grade, she would get me workbooks and flashcards to do after school.  She insisted that I do my work right when I got home from school.  When it came time to start applying for college, she kept track of all of the deadlines for scholarships and ensured that I stuck to those deadlines.  Although I went to a suburban school, I grew up in a low income area, and I can honestly say that I don't know anyone with the same circumstances from my school that is as successful as I am.

On the other side of things, my mom had a terminal illness, and I knew from a fairly young age that I would have to take care of myself.  It taught me a lot of personal responsibility.

  • I would have to say my dad.  He did everything to make sure I got good grades, went to college, grad school...and thanks to him (and my mom too) I graduated with no student loans, which helped me get a great start after college.  He was also really involved when I participated in sports and other activities.
