Anyone grow sweet potatoes?

One of the little girls in DS2's class father brought in a tonne of sweet potatoes today from his fields. I love them. I had really good luck growing regular potatoes last year.

How hard are sweet potatoes.

Re: Anyone grow sweet potatoes?

  • Same as regular potatoes.

I can't remember if it was you, but are you growing spinach? How is it working out for you? I seem to be unable to grow lettuce and spinach.

I saw your blog with the updated list of what you planted this weekend...How are the temps in TN (I planted same things, live in WA)?

  • I'm not doing spinach. I tried last year without luck. I've always had good luck with lettuce. I have some self seeding lettuce already, but I planted more seeds this weekend.
  • Not yet, but I hope too! I really want to try this method in a book I came across where you grow them in tires. You start with one tire, then when the tops come through, add another, and then another, so you end up with a tower of sweet potatoes. Supposedly you can get a huge yield! There's a spot in my backyard perfect for this but mostly out of sight and then I plan to plant tall flowers around it so its not so ugly.
