Hburg area carpet installer recs

I posted about this a long time ago but we decided against getting new carpeting so I didn't save the suggestions.  Now we need to replace the carpet in just one small room so I'm looking for suggestions again.  We stopped at Lowe's over the weekend.  They would charge about $150 for measuring, removing old carpet, and installing new ( this is not including the price of the carpet of course).  We could save about $35 if we took out the old carpet ourselves, which we could easily do.  Is this a reasonable price or should we look elsewhere?  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Re: Hburg area carpet installer recs

  • I don't think that's too bad. I think you could probably find someone to do several rooms for that amount but I think most installers probably have a minimum amount they would charge to come out and do that.
  • I would agree that it is probably a good price, since most contractors would charge a base fee plus an hourly rate to come to the house, regardless how small the job. We replaced the carpeting in the bedrooms and hallway last January and actually paid $200 or even more (also Lowes), so it sounds like they've dropped their price some.
  • We bought our carpet for the basement from Carpet Barn in New Cumberland.  We got an estimate from them and Essis and Sons and Carpet Barn was $700 cheaper for the same carpet.  Check them out...small local company, low overhead!  HTH!
