Every water bottle I have leaks from the top and it's time for a new one. What brand(s) do you recommend, and what should I stay away from? I have a tendency of dropping them, too, so sturdy would help!
Re: Rec your water bottle!
I had a Sigg that I really liked except the lining on the inside where the cap screws on is flaking off. It is the old lining so I'm not sure if the new lining is any better. I'm kind of annoyed cause those things aren't cheap.
All of our other water bottles are Nalgene from REI. All but one are the basic wide mouth ones with these little inserts so I don't spill all over myself. Yep, I'm in my 30's and haven't figured out how to drink without spilling.
I also have this one for working out.
Tired after a long morning of hiking and swimming.
So, I've tried a few. :-p
I won't do a Sigg bottle, because they need to be lined. Their linings failed awhile back, so what's going to prevent that from happening again? There are enough other options that I'm just not going to go there.
I had a wide-mouth Nalgene, but I lost it. It was wonderful and lasted for years without leaking. The downside is that it was hard to drink out of while in a car. Either they didn't make the inserts, or I didn't know about them. Oh, and Jeff had his old Nalgene (I made him get a BPA free one recently) for longer than he's had me. For probably 10+ years and beat the crap out of it. They're definitely sturdy.
I replaced the wide-mouth Nalgene with a narrow mouth one. It was easier for me to drink out of. The downside is that when I'd run it through the dishwasher, there would be floaties when I refilled it. I could see them, so I'd go "YICK!" and rinse it out and refill it and be OK. But it annoyed me. It never leaked on me.I currently have a Klean Kanteen. It is my least favorite. I bought it because I needed a narrower bottle to fit in the water bottle pocket of my backpack. I got the wide mouth bottle because of the floatie issues in my old narrow-mouth Nalgene. The Klean Kanteen is not clear, and I knew I'd forget about it and probably drink floaties without knowing it.
I hate that the top isn't tethered and that they don't make one that is that isn't a sport cap; I also don't like drinking out of metal. It does not leak.
And just in case you were wondering, this cap does fit on a Klean Kanteen, but is only leakproof about 75% of the time. Not that I'd know or anything.I use a Thermos brand water bottle and LOVE IT! Its starting to get beat up but still does the job! I love to have COLD water and this works awesome! Here is a link to the bottle I have sorry don't know how to make it clicky.
