Tourist needs some direction...
Hey, ladies! DH and I are heading your way to celebrate his 30th birthday. We've got tickets to Wicked and reservations at the Peninsula's chocolate bar, and that's a big chunk in our newlywed budget! Any low-budget, locals-only-know kinda places you can let us know about? (restaurants, hotels, attractions, etc?) TIA!
Tracy

My favorite Chicago Pizza is My Pie in Lincoln Park on Clark St.
Another favorite is called Hot Doug's. It's a hole in the wall kind of place that attracts tons of people for their huge selection of Chicago-style hot dogs and other creative dogs. I am a vegetarian, but I love their veggie dog. They have won a bunch of awards and a lot of locals and tourists stop by. They are not open on Sun., and if you go Sat. be prepared to wait in line. http://www.hotdougs.com/
My fave Chicago pizza is Lou Malnati's on Wells St. downtown. Cozy dining room. The Peninsula Choc Bar is awesome - good pick!
Check out the architectural boat tour on the Chicago River - it's a 1.5 hr boat ride down the river and you get to see all the buildings and history behind them. Tix are about $20 pp.
