Napping schedule...

Does your baby have one?  When did they start to get on a regular schedule?  Allyson is still different everyday.  She was doing great but all has changed in the past few days.  She was starting to sleep 2 to 3 hours every morning then for about an hour in the afternoons, now this week she has only been taking like 3 30 minute cat naps and she's miserable by 4pm.  She's sleeping good at night usually 8 to 7:30/8 and waking once during that time but shouldn't she still be napping during the day?  I'm working from home the next couple of weeks so her not napping is killing me right now!

Re: Napping schedule...

  • We didnt and still do not have a solid nap schedule.  He naps when he needs and usually goes down for 1/2 hour to 1.5 hours.  The only set schedule we had was bed time and that started when he was about 2 months old.   Naps to me are their call and they will get into their old schedule.

    GL!

  • Nope, no schedule here either - it totally blows IMO!
  • IMO, Allyson is too young to have a napping schedule.  You can try putting her down every 2 to 2.5 hours if she doesn't seem to be tired or wanting to nap at all.  Does she show any signs of being tired, such as rubbing her eyes, sucking her fingers, getting really fussy even though she is fed and clean?  Those are all indicators that Alyssa is tired and would benefit from a nap.  Alyssa naps every day but it's not always at the same time.  Yesterday she took one 3-hour nap from 8:30 to 11:30 and then another small one from 3:15 to 4:15.  The day before that, she napped for a couple hours in the morning but had a "crap nap" in the afternoon.  The day before that, she slept in the morning but not at all in the afternoon nor did she want to.  As far as naps go, I don't do anything in particular to get her to nap.  I don't have a routine that I follow, either.  I just " go with it."  I do give her opportunities every day to nap, though.  Good luck!!  =)
  • BTW - FWIW, Austin *just* started to show signs of a morning nap around 9am...supposedly the morning nap shows up around 3-4 months - then babies around the age of 5-8 months begin to develop a mid afternoon nap around 12-2pm and a variable late afternoon nap around 3-5pm...so for now, just go with what Allyson needs, like what Amye suggested
  • I'm definitely not pushing a nap schedule, i just put her down when I know she's tired.  She'll fuss and rub her eyes too.  I was just curious if a schedule ever comes, lol.  I know she's too young right now.
  • I was talking to my mom about naps and schedules and of course she followed the Dr. Spock book, because that was the thing at the time and he was very ridged and told parents to put babies on a schedule....I turned out alright...it's funny all these different philosophies of what to do with your baby all funnel into the same place so that eventually every baby gets on some sort of schedule, whether you are ridged or not....
  • Jack usually wakes up around 9 am then takes a 30 minute nap around 11 or so.  He then is up till around 1:30 or whenever he is tired and will usually nap for 2-4 hours.  He goes to bed around 8:30 and usually takes a nap for 30 minutes around 7:00ish.  He put himself pretty much on this schedule and we follow it loosely.  IMO, babies like a little routine also...we do the EASY...eat, activity, sleep, yourself and it works great.  Good Luck!
  • Yes, a nap schedule does come!  From about 6 weeks his naps were consistent (ie: took a nap 1.5 hours after waking up, 2 hours after waking up from that, cat nap around 4 etc) but not always at the same time.  Around 4 months his naps started to be at the same time every day.  It will get better!
  • Jakob was a few months old before he started to have a rythm to his naps and even then - every time I just got it figured out, it seemed to change a little as he got older.

Caroline was probably 6 months old (at least) before I could get her to on a shedule for her naps.  She sleeps amazingly well at night but is not as great with her napping.  Even still, at a year old shee has a different schedule for her naps on the days that Jakob is here (she naps once/day at the same time that he does) versus the days that he is at "school" (she naps twice/day).  She adores her big brother and doesn't want to miss out on spending a single second of watching/learning from him - that is my theory!
