Re: I'm curious: A Poll
I answered no, don't care to, but that's not 100% true. I actually get disgusted with myself thinking about how we don't recycle anymore. We used to in both of our apartments and I/my parents always recycle too. For some reason, since we've been in our new house and there isn't a convenient place in our kitchen for a recyclable bin/bag, we just plain stopped doing it.
I'd like to recitify this since I've been thinking about it a lot lately.

I seperate what the township recycles but anything that would require me to drive it somewhere else to be recycles gets tossed in the regular trash can.
I was basically referring to single stream recycling items - cans, bottles, plastics, paper, newspapers, magazines, etc. Many towns now have single stream recycling so that you don't have to separate these items.. they all go in one can, regardless if it's township-issued or not. My parents just moved to MD and there are NO recycle trucks that come around. This blows my mind!
In my town (single-stream), I know plenty of family/ neighbors who throw their glass and aluminum products in with their regular garbage. I have been known to separate these items in the middle of a party/holiday. Inexcusable!
Now, if you're throwing old computers, cell phones, and other electronics into a regular trash can, we need to have a talk. That's terrible.
Our town has single stream recycling and they have an option to take other plastics (#'s 3-7) to a bin near the public works building. I do the single-stream recycling and am trying to get in the habit of putting the other plastics aside.
I recycle all my cardboard boxes too. I know this doesn't make up for the lack of a system for everything else and this post was what I needed to kick my butt in gear. I'll be getting a bin and making room under my sink ASAP to start up recycling again.
Just to make myself *appear* to be a little less lazy/irresponsible, I ALWAYS recycle at work and at school and anywhere that has recyclable bins. And I ask, when I'm at someone's house, if they recycle, before I just tash cans and bottles, etc.

We often have more recycling than trash, so we can't keep a bin in the house. Maybe if you have an outside (covered) porch or garage you can keep a bigger bin there. We keep ours out on the outside covered porch.
Unfortunately, our HOA will not allow any receptacle like that, but, since I live in a TH community, we use dumpster and communal recyclable containers, so we can just empty as needed throughout the week. Thanks for the tip though!

My city has a full time employee who is responsible for inspecting our garbage. If he finds things that should be recycled then you get a warning. Second time you are fined.
We don't have to seperate so it's not a big deal at all.
We also do not have to separate, and we get Recyclebank points. We keep a separate bin out on our deck, then empty that into the big township bin at the end of the week. Sometimes I forget to put paper in there - like mail. But for the most part, we recycle everything else.
When I lived in PA they didn't have recycling pickup, either. You had to bring it to a center.
