ferral cats and our ordeal
Hi! We have come across this issue of ferral cats in our yard. Here's what happened. On Monday I told my son to let the dog out into the backyard while I was getting things ready to head out. Well, he ran out with the dog as he always does into our fenced in back yard. A ferral cat with her two kittens were out there (which I'm almost sure my son, who is 4, probably ran after). The cats started to attack my son (he just got a surface scrach, not bad at all) and my dog fought the cats to get them away from him. My dog ended up badly hurt, had to go to the vet to get him bandaged up and medicated. I called animal control, and that was a total joke. My husband ended up trying to spray the cats away with the hose and we haven't seen them since. Does anyone else have this problem in SA? I've never experienced anything like this! What can we do to prevent cats from coming into our yard? Now, my poor dog is afraid to go out!
Any advice?
Re: ferral cats and our ordeal
Maybe you can contact the Feral Cat Coalition of San Antonio. They have a website and phone number. We actually adopted our two cats from them. I'm surprised the cats go near your dog/son. Feral cats are not calm around people and tend to be very skittish. Cats supposedly hate citrus scents (mine don't seem to mind it though). I wouldn't be surprised if they leave you alone now. Cats are very intelligent and usually move on to another location if the current one is not working.
