s/o wines

I bought a random pick the other night at PCC, and the cashier asked about it saying a lot of people had been buying it lately. Hmm...maybe that's a good sign!

Well I liked it, and noticed the bottle talked about sustainability and farming the "green string" way (not quite sure what this means exactly).

It was a Cline Cellars wine, and here on their site they talk about their practices http://www.clinecellars.com/index.cfm?method=pages.showPage&pageid=d9141667-d205-c7eb-4eac-032ff2793775

Re: s/o wines

  • Cline is a fun winery, and it isn't too pricey. We go up there often and do a HUGE order with two or three friends and they will often give 50% off per case. If you want to come down and go, let me know! I do have a guest room (although my sister has laid claim to it!).

  • Wow, that's a huge discount! I actually bought it because it was a good price, and was very pleased with it. That's so sweet of you, not much travel time for a while, but if I'm ever going to make it that way I will let you know!

  • BTW, their ancient or old (can't remember what word) vine Movadra (Sp?) IS AMAZING :-)

  • Cline is one of my go-to mid-price wines.

There were a few wineries that we visited in Oregon that were doing quite interesting things.  Ponzi had built a gravity flow system that eliminated using pumps for moving the wine from grape to bottle, for example.

  • Thanks for the recc Roni! I will look for that.

CDL, that's really a neat idea!

  • None of those viticulture practices are particularly unusual. Maybe using sheep instead of mowing the cover crop.

  • You're welcome. It's also called Mataro.

??? I never implied they were unusual, was just noting an economical wine choice I enjoyed that uses sustainable practices on their land.

The sheep part is pretty cool though. :) And thanks for clarifying the Mouvedre. I'll keep my eye out for it.

  • ohhh, I am so happy I stumbled on this

  • Have you tried any Wellington?  It's from the same area.  We went to the vineyard when we were in Sonoma last summer.  We didn't make it to Cline.  We want to go back we had such a great time.  I've seen Wellington back home in Ohio.  It's not everywhere but you can find it if you're looking for it.

We met David Noyes there (a local wine maker) and he was so fun and actually took down my recipe for laundry soap...haha we got free port chocolates for sharing our homemade recipe with him!  :)

Also Kunde is another good sustainable vineyard.  Kunde is pretty widely available in our area. mmm in fact I have a chard in my fridge..... :)
