Lurker with drain cleaning question
Hi ladies!
Normally I am over on the Pet Board, but lurk over here to see your great ideas!
I need to clean our bathroom sink drain, and don't want to use commercial drain cleaners because they are so harsh. I tried using a plunger to move the clog, but it didn't really help.
Any suggestions would be great! TIA!

Re: Lurker with drain cleaning question
I've recently had good luck with our tub drain and kitchen sink by pouring in some baking soda (generously) then white vinegar. Let it bubble and fizz, then chase it with a kettle of boiling water.

did that this morning with amazing results! makes me want to go clean more drains.
I also used vinegar to clean my shower head. now it sprays normally again.
(lurker from the EFF board)
Get a Zip It. It's a long, thin, barbed piece of flexible plastic. You feed it into the drain & the pull it out. It grabs the clog. Sold at hardware stores & even Targe, $2-$3.
If you're brave you can also take apart the pipe under the sink. The clog is usually in the elbow. (the curved part) Just make sure you have a bucket under it to catch any water sitting in the pipe.
thanks for suggesting the zip it also! I have to go to the hardware store tomorrow anyway, and will see if they have it. DH bought a drain snake, but it makes such a huge mess, and rarely works that well that I am hoping either the Zip it or the baking soda mix will work.
Thanks again ladies!
