Anyone shop at local farmers markets for fruit?
I shop at Publix for most of my groceries and overall, I really love the store. But recently the fruit I get there doesn't seem to taste as good as it did before. I hate buying a bunch of fruit only to discover when I get home that the taste is subpar.
Does anyone go to any local markets where the fruit is good? It would be nice to support local farmers and not chain stores all the time.
Re: Anyone shop at local farmers markets for fruit?
I've gone to Clemons and its great and I've also gone to Mom's Meat's Pop's Produce and they are both good, diverse, and affordable.
I haven't gone to the Winter Park Farmer's Market on Saturday's but I've been dying to go. I heard local artists bring there stuff there too. That's more of what I'm interested in for the house.:)
Every Sunday morning you will find me at the Maitland Farmers Market. It's near lake lily.
The produce is SO much better and significantly cheaper than in stores.
Thanks for the great recs!
I'm going to check out a couple of the markets this weekend. Yay! I can't wait to taste some good produce!
Look around. My favorite farmer's market is open every day on 46A just east of 17-92. I get a week's worth of fruits and veggies for less than $10. They carry the staples: apples, oranges, onions, potatoes, beans, etc... The selection changes weekly based on what's available and what's in season. Two weeks ago they had purple bell peppers, boy were they pretty!
I find the produce from the farmer's market tastes better and cooks better than what I usually buy at the grocery store. Plus, it's much cheaper.
Occasionally, I drop by the Sanford Farmer's Market because their prices and selection are pretty good as well. But the Lake Mary and Winter Park FMs are a bit expensive. Choose Lake Mary for prices; Winter Park for ambiance. I do go to Winter Park to walk around and check out the specialty products but I never buy the produce because I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere. The FM at Lake Eola on Sundays is nice because you can enjoy the lake before shopping and the prices are fair.
