BR: just got back from 30 week ultrasound

The babies are measuring pretty much on target - they're a bit ahead (I'm 30w2d and one is measuring 30w6d and the other is 31w4d) but not terrifyingly so, which is reassuring since it's a big concern with GD.

The good news is that they're both head down, so we might not have an unavoidable c-section, yaaay!

The bad news is that apparently I grow children with massive heads (both skulls are measuring over 34 weeks already), so now my poor ladyparts are shriveling in fear already at the idea of pushing these kids out. Indifferent

I'm clinching thinking about this!  But so glad to hear things are going good :)  You are almost there! :)

  • Great news Lisa!  And don't worry...your lady parts will handle whatever size heads they have...promise!  If you have a yoga ball I recommend bouncing on it everyday to help open up your pelvis and move the babies down...it works!  Yay for head down babies!  Did you doc give an estimate of how long you'll go?  Is there a time when they'll want to induce, especially with the GD?

Not yet - basically we're still in "let's go as long as we can" mode. Aussie doctors don't tend to induce nearly as frequently as American ones, so unless the kids start growing out of control from the GD or something else happens, I don't think my doc is too concerned - especially since he thinks I'll probably go naturally before that point anyway.

From my point of view, I know that longer is better, but I can also tell you that the day I hit 36 weeks I'm going to start screaming "GETOUTGETOUTGETOUT" at my stomach. Stick out tongue

The only other uncertainty at this point is that if Twin A manages to flip into breech position my doctor may want to do scheduled c-section at around 36 weeks just so we don't have to do an emergency one, but I don't think that's very likely - Twin A has been head down pretty much since day one and doesn't seem to be interested in flipping. Unlike Twin B, who until recently was in a different position with every ultrasound...but if he goes breech, we can still give v-birth a shot because Twin A will come out first and then Twin B may be able to be maneuvered into a head down position (since there will suddenly be a lot more room to turn him around). But again, there are other variables that may come into play, so we'll see.

  • ha ha ha, ur so funny Lisa! Glad everything is going well!
  • Great news, sounds like a good appt. :)  I am still amazed at how they can give details on the size of the baby... it's all so surreal isn't it?  Can't believe how close you are now!

  • Wow!  Our baby's head was measuring a week ahead of its body and THAT freaked me out.  Your guys must just have very large, well-developed brains!

ooh, sending twin A vibes to stay head down!  My doula recently attended a natural vaginal birth of twins...she said it was amazing!

  • Yay for heads down!  You know, I was told that if the first baby is head down it doesn't matter about the second because there would be enough room for them to turn the second baby once the first is out.  Any mention of that or do they both have to be head down?

Yup, as long as the first one (Twin A) is head down, we can still give it a shot even if Twin B is breech. They may or may not be able to get Twin B into position - they can try, but some babies just don't like to be moved - so there would still be a chance of needing an emergency c-section for the second baby.

  • yay, sounds like everything is going well! and yes, definitely must be brainiacs in there Smile

  • Great news!  I can't imagine how it must feel to have two babies in there!
