Whine Wed

It's been awhile...I'll go first! lol

My sister and mother in law don't like that I've decided to make my own laundry detergent. Why do they care? Just wait till they hear I'm making my own dishwasher detergent too. lol. I think the real kicker is going to be when DH and I get preggers and I let them know about the CD plan along with all kinds of other EF things I plan on doing such as no plastic toys, only used furniture/bedding, and not wanting to get any baby clothes for gifts.*

*The baby clothes thing is because I personally (no flames please lol) think that buying newborn clothes for people is a waste of money, onesies and sleep and plays excluded. How many times have new moms said," Oh, they didn't even wear half of this stuff..."

Anyone else got something?

Re: Whine Wed

  • Why does the GMO Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) meeting have to be so faaaarrr?  I'm glad I'm going, "fight the man!" as my DH said this morning, but 2 1/2 hours is so far.  And I *HATE* I-495, it's like NASCAR for idiots, which is saying a lot.  I-495 in the dark on the way home is going to be even worse.

Another whine, organic peanut butter (PB) sucks.  I finally found a brand that didn't have palm oil or have to be refridgerated, and it's the consistency of thin yogurt.  It falls right out the back of my PB&J sandwiches.  Back to the drawing board... UGH and organic PB is expensive!  That was a $5 jar I just chucked.

  • Oh don't chuck it! Make it into peanut sauce or something! What about the grind your own peanut butter way, either at home or at places like Whole Foods?

JPeazy, stick to your beliefs!! Why do they care about you making detergent? How strange!

Hmm....my whine is that I have no good lunch, and I don't want to drive to PCC. I know, its not a very good whine. I'll try harder.

  • I'm whining about having to study OChem.  : (

SuperGreen, how fast do you eat PB?  I don't refrigerate mine or Nandi's because we eat it fast enough.  I've been doing this for at least a year and I've never had the PB do anything weird.  It doesn't smell funny, taste funny, grow things or make us sick.  I'm not super picky about refrigerating things, though, and also leave my butter out so that it's soft enough to spread (and not in one of those butter bell things; I thought about it until people said their butter got moldy?).

Ever since we bought the canning equipment and DH read about botulism, he will not under any circumstances let me leave out anything that's supposed to be refridgerated.  He's very supportive of our green habits, so when he feels strongly about something I've learned to pick my battles and go with what he wants.  So it can't say it needs to be refridgerated on the side.

Our cat licks the butter if we leave it out.  Even if it's in a covered butter dish, he knocks the cover off and goes to town.  Plus DH wants it refridgerated, so it's hard as a rock.  I can leave it out while we cook though, so it's soft enough to spread by the time we sit down to eat.

Aw, your DH is cute.  : )  Jeff's really supportive of doing green things that I want, so I understand the compromising.

Our cats lick butter if we leave it out, too.  We have a big pantry that we usually put it in.  The downside is that the pantry has sliding doors that they've figured out how to open.  So my 12 pack of throwback Mt. Dew is blocking the doors from opening.  I think they like butter more than catnip.  Stick out tongue
