What is your "List"?

So I got this from another nestie's blog that I saw when I logged in.  Do you and your DH have a list of things you want to do before children?  If you have children already did you have a list and did you do all of the things before you had your children?

Ours is

1. Be completely debt free

2. Go to Europe and California.

3. Have a significant amount of money saved.

4. Buy a home.

5. Oh yeah and both of us lose some lbs and be healthier.

People say you are never ready even if you have everything set.  Hopefully we can accomplish that in the next 2-3 years till we start having our little ones.  Though a baby is always welcome anytime.:)  I'd love to hear other's lists.

Re: What is your "List"?

  • 1. Debt free besides mortgage and student loans.

    2. Go to Ireland.

    3. Save money.

I used to want to lose 30 pounds and have $10K in the bank, but that won't happen for quite a while and both of those numbers are arbitrary.  We've both become much more realistic about it.  We do want to have some money saved (at least to cover "start up" costs), but we don't need to wait for a certain amount. Also, we always wanted to wait until we can buy a bigger house...and have realized that that is also not totally necessary.  Good question, I think about stuff like this ALL the time.

Yeah someone I know said that she had tons of money in the bank, a great house, both had great jobs, both had great 401k's, IRA's, life insurance, had been married for like three or four years, had been all over the world together, had dated long before marriage, were in their thirties, and they still kind of freaked out thinking "I'm not ready" when they got their BFP.  They really do say you never feel completely "ready".

  • We had a "list" that was completed when I got pregnant with our son. When I was 7 mns preg my husband lost his job. At that point we had a pretty good amount in savings which quickly got used up! Which caused us to rack up debt that we had had paid off! Fast forward 16mns and my husband has once again been laid off (hes in the construction industry which is SLOOWW). I've learned that you just can't plan for most things in life. As hard as you try...life has a mind of its own.

  • 1. Pay off all our debt (a reoccuring theme on here)
    2. Save more money
    3. Travel a lot more (at least 2-4 times each year)
    4. Purchase a home
    5. Pay off student loans!

Of course no one is really ready, and life likes to throw curve balls at you, but you can always hope and try to plan!
  • Had a list before the baby came but totally didn't accomplish any of it. Mine is almost identical to yours:

    1. Lose about 100 pounds (no joke)

    2. Become debt free.

    3. Become self-employed (not that I don't like my job, I just miss my baby while I'm at work!)

    4. Buy a house

    5. Make it to the West Coast (never been west of the Mississippi River!)

  • 1. Get a better paying job

    2. Get down to almost high school weight (we'll see how that goes after Zach's arrival)

    3. Make a sizeable savings account

    4. Move to Vegas

    5. Finish my degree...or try to start it, considering I have only one class under my belt.

  • 1. Move into a bigger house if we can ever sell the one we're in

    2. Save one years salary (we are doing great with this one and are almost there!!)

    3. I would love to go to Bora Bora but I dont' think that's going to happen

We are pretty much ready anytime but we have decided to wait alittle longer.
