So, we no longer have The Beaner (Ellie Bean, Jelly Bean... etc)... and I find DH online looking at other dogs... I go last night and do the same... he says to stop, he's sad... we're not getting another dog..
Commercial-shows a kitten-I say Aw-look at the cute kitty! (and I'm more a dog person, than a kitty, but who can not AWW a kitty?!?)...
DH-we are NOT getting a kitten... (um, I know, I don't want one)
DH-well, you Aw'd it! (yes, but I Aw babies, too!)
DH---silence... you could hear crickets! (I'm cracking up knowing he doesn't want any more kids)
So, today he emails me pics of this dog called a Bagle Hound. Semi mix of a beagle and a basset hound... (is this not the sweetest thing?!?) So, I don't know what's going on... I thought we were waiting a year or so vs. a WEEK...

Re: DH is confusing me (re-dogs)
OMG, first, that puppy is THE cutest!!! I've never seen that mix before.
Hmmm....definitely seems like mixed signals. Maybe come right out and ask him what he's thinking in terms of getting another dog? Maybe he's thinking sooner now? What do you think? In my experience it was really hard to not have a dog around after our older one passed away, so we got Bella pretty soon after. BUT, everyone needs to be on board with that decision because if not, it can be really hard to get another if you're not ready.
ETA: Like ilovedesi said, don't feel like you're replacing Ellie by getting another dog. My Mom struggled a lot with feelings of guilt and like she was replacing Fluffy (our previous dog) by getting Bella, especially so soon. But, you shouldn't feel guilty about getting another pet. We still remember Fluffy a lot and have her pictures around the house. You'd be adding to your family, not replacing a member of it. Take whatever time you need...When you and your family are ready, you'll know.
OMG, cutest puppy!
Working in a veterinary hospital I can say that each family takes a different amount of time to grieve and even those families that get another dog or cat soon after the death of their previous animal does not mean that they are still not missing their old pet.
I remember when my kitty died and I waited just one month to get a new kitten. I felt somewhat guilty but I knew that I would still think about my old kitty and I still do think of him to this day. Take as much (or as little) time as you need to get your next pet. It does not reflect at all how you feel about Ellie. I think some of the confusion between you and your DH is maybe due to feeling like you are trying to replace Ellie. Talk it out and figure out how long you want to wait.
Oh My Stinkin' CUTENESS!!!
Yeah I would just outright ask him. "Dude, pup or no pup?"
DH's gran has a Bagel (Daisy). Not from a breeder though, they got her from the pound. She is the sweetest thing, Head like a Begal, body like a basset.
Yep-gotta ask him outright, I guess...
This pup is pure cuteness, though! DH likes the 'hounds'-like Lore's Neela-but we don't have that much space for one so big... although I'd get a retriever in an instant... ! Will keep you updated!
That puppy is adorable!
SO CUTE.
SO FRICKIN' CUTE!
It looks like Wrigley when he was a puppy! I hope DH figures out what he wants. I feel like my house will always have a dog, and I don't feel like its "replacing" your last one.
LOVE that puppy!! Floppy ears are the best!
It sounds to me like maybe DH is feeling that she was HIS dog, so HE gets to decide when he's ready for a new one. Was she there when he went through the divorce from ex before you were in the picture? I think just give him some time, follow his lead on this one. Talk to him, but don't push it and I wouldn't take his moods personally, he's just grieving.
And if he wants that puppy, GET IT!!
A. That puppy is adorable.
B. Only you guys can know when you're ready. It's going be a little tough regardless because you'll always miss the dog you lost, but it's not a replacement. My family always gets a new dog right away. My mom can't deal with the quiet (which is relative . . . she has 3 dogs.)
Exactly, Kristy! DH and ex had 2 goldens and ex decided to get the basset. So, Ellie was in his life for 14 yrs-mine, only about 4-ish.
He had one golden and the Basset when I came into the picture. Talk about hard to walk both at the same time! Tug of war... wow!
We also saw Lulu yesterday... a coonhound.
Sigh. Reasons why I can never go to sites like Petfinder because I WILL take all of the dogs home with me.
I *hate* not having a dog here with DH and I. It's so hard to be away from Bella on a daily basis...I miss her!
Oh I LOVE Lulu!!!!!!
Somthing about a black face with brown eyebrows just gets me!! And those ears.....ooohhhh I just wanna pinch her!!
Both puppies are so adorable!!! I'm a sucker for a puppy dog with droppy soft ears.
