crazy work drama-long

The set up:  I work at a charter school. We currently have 4 campuses, in 2008 we had 6,  All the campuses have a ratio of teachers to students, for example the campus I work at has 4 teachers-counting me-and one of those teachers is called the Lead, (basically the supervisor of the campus).  We have a main campus, which I will henceforth call C1, my boss and all the admin are at this campus, its where we have staff meetings, trainings etc...

In 2008 I worked at C1, my lead at the time- I'll call him Craig, there were 4 other teachers who worked there too.   At one of the other campuses, C3, the lead was a woman I will call Ellen. Ellen and Craig had the exact same job just at different campuses, but Ellen wasn't satisfied with being a lead at one of the smaller campuses, she wanted to be the lead at the main campus.( I guess she thought she would have more power over what happened at all the campuses)  She tried to convince my boss to give her the job.  but

1) the job wasn't available, Craig had worked for the company for 6 years at that point and had been the lead for 4 of those years.  He was a loyal and good employee, a great lead and my boss had no reason to get rid of him, and we all enjoyed working with him.

2) None of the teachers at C1 wanted to work with her, we all went to our boss and told him that we didn't want her as our lead.  She was demanding, mean, talked down to everyone, she treated us all like children. And she was a bit crazy and would fly off the handle if she didn't get everything her own way.

She was denied the job-remember she was already the lead at the other campus- so she quit.  She then went to a lawyer and sued our boss for sexual discrimination.  I thought the whole thing was over but its not.  Next month I have to go be interviewed by her anti discrimination lawyer, because she named me as a witness.  I hope she doesn't think I'm going to take her side on this.  I think she's crazy. I really can't believe she found a lawyer to take her case, I don't think there is anyway she can win.

  • That is crazy!  It irritates me so much when people try to get something from people that they don't deserve.  She is making life so tough for everyone right now, and she isn't a victim of any kind!  Stinks you are having to deal with all of this.

PS, it seems like there is a trend lately with A08ers testifying in court.

  • Holy moly! I wonder what she thinks she's going to get out of this court thing. Definitely not the lead position she wanted. Just go in there and tell the truth and let her end up being the one with egg on her face when its all over with. But I'm sorry you got dragged into all this, that sucks.
  • Wow. Some people just can't take no for an answer, can they?
  • I'm not a lawyer or anything but I can't imagine she has a leg to stand on here.  She wanted to transfer into a position that wasn't open and when she was told that she quit.  It's not like she was even fired.  Where is the discrimination???  Now, if they fired Craig just to give Ellen the job there might be a case :)

Sorry you have to testify...what a PITA.

  • That sucks for you and your school!  Were you ordered or summoned to make a statement?   It sounds odd that you have to. Have you told the school's lawyer? Will they be going with you?

It sounds like a classic case of Narcissistic Personality Disorder - Narcissistic personality disorder is a condition in which there is an inflated sense of self-importance and an extreme preoccupation with one's self.

PS - I learned about this personality disorder in class a few weeks ago. I'm learning how to diagnose crazies Big Smile

Her lawyer is just coming to our main campus and doing interviews with the staff there, I think it is just a witness statement.  The school lawyer is going to be there too.  I was actually called by my boss (who is the wife my boss from 2008-he is now semi-retired due his health) they want to do all the interviews at the same place.  I'm just wondering why this is happening now.  She quit in 2008.

I wouldn't be surprised if she did have Narcissistic Personality Disorder, we actually had a student at this campus last year who was diagnosed with this-sadly a lot of our kids come with huge medical right ups in their files and many more probably have multiple problems that aren't diagnosed.

My current lead is getting his masters in counseling now and he is always able to compare our kids to what he's working on in class.  It's kinda sad

  • OMG that is insane!  I hope she gets NOTHING!
