Workout girls

Do any of you use a calorie counter/heart rate thingie? On the wrist or whatever? I know the counters on actual elliptical machines and the like are almost always inaccurate by a ton, but do the other ones actually work? Are they accurate? I'm curious how my different workouts compare.

Thanks ladies!

Re: Workout girls

  • I LOVED my Polar HRM until it ran out of battery and I never replaced it.

I credit my HRM for the 30 lbs I lost.

  • I feel like I can't even workout without mine - I love it so much.

I have the Polar f4.  Don't let others convince you that you need something fancier than an f4 or f6.

    I got mine off ebay.

My battery also went out.  I got it replaced at a watch store in HB for $10 and it has lasted two years at this point.

I have an older fairly cheap Polar and I love it.  I has a chest strap and a watch.  It was also the reason I lost weight in 2008.  For some reason it really motivated me when I was running.  I would tell myself to get to a certain amount of calories which would usually push me to go longer.  I am not sure how accurate it was but it totally motivated me.  I need to start using it again.

Okay, this is good to know. I was told I I would have to send it in to Polar to get replaced and that was just too much trouble for me. Tongue Tied

I thought the same thing at first when I found my user manual.  It was going to cost me a ton just to ship it.  I went into the shop and they actually had heart rate monitors there too so it made me feel better.  It took them about 5 minutes to change it.  I was so excited.  I am assuming most watch places could do it but the place I went was on the corner of Brookhurst and Adams.

  • I have a Polar F6 and I thought it was fabulous.

However, I'm now using a body bugg for the H&F program I'm doing and OMG - it kicks the HRM's ass!! I have a loaner right now, but I'm totally buying my own when I'm done with the program. I plan on dedicating a blog post to the thing in a couple of weeks, but the short version is that it's awesome. :)

I have been wondering about that Body Bugg. I can't wait to read your review.

I kept seeing it in the Costco Coupon book and online and I really wanted one.  Once I found out my contract position was up I knew I couldn't fork out the $180.  I see the people on Biggest Loser use them and part of me was hoping they were not that good.  I look forward to reading your post.

  • Did you find the chest strap annoying? Did you put in over/under your sports bra? Did it move around when you did more strenuous activity?

I put it right beneath the band of my sports bra. I made it nice and tight and it never moved and never annoyed me.

  • Depending on which top I was wearing it was either under the band or just below it. Like YL said, I made it nice and snug (where I could still breathe comfortably, though) and it never moved or annoyed me.

The only time it would get sort of in the way is during ab work, but you can adjust it to not dig into your back.

Ditto this.  Every so often it would get a little irritated if I had it on for a long time otherwise I barely felt it and it stayed in place.  There were multiple times I wore it for two hours of high intensity tennis and still no problems.

I have this one and I love it, best part is it's pink! I just put the chest strap beneath my sports bra, nice and tight and I didn't notice it. I've even worn it in the pool and it was fine.
