I need some OBGYN recs, PLEASE. I have an appointment next week at NYE with Dr. Ray. Someone's sister I know used them and recommended them, however I have been reading reviews on Yelp and a lot of them are not good in regards to the waiting time, etc.
I'm not TTC, but do plan to in the next year or so, so I want a facility where all of the doctors are good and who is affiliated with a good hospital for having babies (which is a another thing I have no idea about).
I'm sure many of you have done your research and have experienced some great places. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Re: OBGYN recs in the City
I forgot to mention I would prefer a woman doctor.
Thanks!
Hey girls!
How funny-I just did a big search for this too. I made an appointment with Melissa Dennis in Lakeview. Great reviews online (found her on yelp). Going for the same reason-not TTC yet but probably in a year or so and want to find someone good before that time comes.

I've had good experiences at 2 hospitals.
I had DS1 at Northwestern Memorial--Dr. Dana Gossett (everyone in the practice that I saw was great) (Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation)
I would have stayed there, but we had an insurance change and were forced to change Dr's. I just delivered my twins at Swedish Covenant (on the North Side).--Dr. Brennan is wonderful.
Northwestern has nicer facilities, but I was equally happy w/ the care I rec'd at both.
I go to NMPG and see Dr. Auger- I've been very happy with her.
One thing to note is that in many of the practices in the city, you will deliver with whichever doctor is on-call- so while your primary doctor may be female- you could still deliver with a male doctor. So if you really want a woman, I'd try to find a practice with only women doctors.
I delivered at Prentice- loved it. Especially loved the epidural.
I did a bit of research on this, as we will be TTC later this year. For the past 6 years, I have been going to NMFF, at Northwestern Hospital. I've seen Dr. Hammond, who is amazing (but male). From time to time, I've seen other physicians in the practice who have been good as well.
I decided to change practices this year because while I want to deliver at Prentice, I do not want a practice affiliated with the hospital. I want a physician in private practice. If at all possible, I'd like to minimize the possibility of having a resident deliver my baby, having med students observe, etc.
On the advice of a friend who had an extremely complicated birth (premie 3 months early, etc.), I went to the Women's Group of Northwestern (http://www.womenobgyn.net/) and saw Dr. Lui. She was very thorough and I will likely stay with this practice.
I also did alot of reading of reviews on Yelp, Citysearch, etc. I'd have to say, most of the city practices had at least a few negative reviews. I think you just have to meet a few docs yourself and come to your own conclusions.
I can tell you that while my care at NMFF has been good over the last 6 years, I've always had extensive wait times for appointments, and it is difficult to reach your doctor directly if you have a problem. I've been bounced around between a few docs, and NP's, etc.
Good luck!
(btw- having a resident/med student is great. you get extra attention/support)
