I need a computer and I know nothing about buying one.

We are thinking about getting this one.   ( http://www.walmart.com/ip/Compaq-15.6-250-GB-CQ61-411wm/13339229 ) I don't need anything fancy, I just need something to be able to attend seminars on.  I'm doing online classes and we have live seminars once a week.  Would this work?  We don't have a lot of money to spend on a super fancy computer right now.  We have an older desktop that we just had refurbished and a laptop that has gone to crap after only 3 years.  Suggestions?

  • I think Compaq is ok, but not great.

The link says that it is sold out online.

One online source that I highly recommend is Geeks.

    Hope is not a strategy.
  • I would definitely recommend the Sony Vaio. We got ours for less than $1000 and I love it.

  • We are hardcore laptop people in our house. Compaq......................okayyyyyyyy. When you're ready for hardcore invest in HewlettPackard.  Run away from the gateway ones, do not allow the cheap price fool you. Toshiba is great also....

  • I would think the first step to purchasing a computer would be to decide what you will be using it for.  Are you strictly a Microsoft Office person?  Will you be needing any photo editing software or additional storage?  Would you like something portable like a laptop or super portable like an acer?

From there, I would begin to read reviews and shop around.

For me and my lifestyle, Mac is the way to go.   You get what you pay for and I think Macs present your computer to you in an easy to understand manner.

    Good luck!

  • I have a Dell Latitude and love it. It was about $750 when I purchased it a few years ago. I haven't had any problems.
