Who here has a Spectrum membership? We recently joined the one on Bandera/1604 and I like it so far but their class schedule isn't good for me. I was thinking about switching to the one in the Medical Center, but I was wondering if anyone went to that one if it was crowded. I like that they have more early morning/lunchtime classes which would work better for me since I work nearby.
Re: Spectrum ?
Wish I could help, but I have no idea! LOL
I did want to say: Beautiful House! Love it!
We love San Antonio! and Hate the Traffic! LOL... We thought about building, but are kind of reserved about it at the moment considering DH is only guaranteed to be here for 4 years. I love life in the military getting to see new places and such, but I will be so happy when we finally get to settle down somewhere. We ended up just signing a 13 month lease at an apartment. I really do like it.
Where did you move here from and why?
I'm not a member of Spectrum anymore, but I used to go to the one on Prue Rd/Fredericksburg. It wasn't too crowded, but that was a loooong time ago! Sorry I'm not more help!
I moved here from Dallas. My FI got a good job here, and I moved down when I found a job. I understand not wanting to buy if you are only going to be here for a few years. Luckily if you do stay, it is really cheap compared to most other places.
Where did you move from? I have to say the exact opposite on the traffic, its nothing compared to Dallas, but I hear it might depend what side of town you live/work on.
The one on Bandera isn't too crowded either. I just thought the Medical Center one might be b/c of all the people working & going to school there. I'll probably just ask for a trial to see how it is.
We're both from a small town (12,000 people) in South AR. He's been in the military for going on 6 years now and has been to Korea twice (1-year each time) and Guam once (5 months). The rest of the time he was stationed at Barksdale in Shreveport, LA. I lived there the past 2 years.
Traffic really isn't bad here as long as you don't have to travel across town during rush hour 2 times a day... LOL I work an 8-5 job, so I get to sit in traffic to and from work everyday... haha
You can't just go for free since you're already a member? That stinks!
I'm from a small town, too, but it was just a couple hours south of here. I'm sure it's quite a change to go from your tiny town to Shreveport to San Antonio!
He definitely gave me an EXTREME stair step! LOL I do like the city life better though. Growing up, it was a 2 hour drive to the closest mall... That was good for my wallet, but no fun at all! I also grew up in the country. It was a 15-20 minute drive to "town" where there were a couple of grocery stores, restaurants, and Walmart... I love everything being within a 2 minute drive! Don't know that I'll ever live in such a small town again!
Hey, if you had a Walmart in town you were living the high life! LOL! My town had <1,700 people, so we didn't have much in town. But at least the mall was only an hour away and not two! That's a long way! I also lived in the country...grew up with pastures beside and behind my house. I don't want to live there now, but I wouldn't mind retiring in a small area. I miss the quietness and the lack of neighbors!
On the other hand, the convenience of everything is really nice in the city! And I don't have to plan too far in advance to see a movie!
No! I was surprised, you have to pay an extra $10 a month to be able to go to multiple clubs. Otherwise you can only go to one at a time.
Thats true, rush hour can get a little heavy. Lucky for me I can work flex hours so I can usually leave before 5. I grew up in Dallas, so I guess I don't have a good frame of reference for what small town traffic would be. Which part of town do you work in?
Wow! They must think pretty highly of themselves!
I work off of I-10 at Wurzbach. So, I hit the Wurzbach/I-10 traffic, I-10/410 traffic, and I-410 (Bandera-Military Drive) traffic everyday... LOL I guess you have to take the good with the bad though...
That doesn't sound too bad. I was thinking more of the early morning before work classes. I don't think I could do during lunch.
This is where I go. They have some morning classes that I like to go to. I've heard good things about the med center one though!
I have a Spectrum membership. My main gym is Prue, but I go to the one in the Med Ctr every Weds b/c I train w/a trainer there (he moved from Prue to Med Ctr and his clients are allowed access to both gyms.) I LOVE that gym. The energy is a lot higher than the one on Prue. Also, it doesn't get any more crowded at 5 - 6 than the one on Prue. The classes seem pretty intense (I haven't taken any group fitness, but if you get a chance, take a TRX class. They are awesome!!) And they're always playing upbeat music to keep up the pace. Like I said, the energy is a lot higher.
The only thing that sucks is the parking. They have limited parking in the front and its usually full. After 5 PM you can park in the HSC parking behind the gym, so that is nice.
You can call the membership coordinator at the Med Center gym and ask for a week pass because you're interested in switching. They'll be more than happy to accommodate! Or, send me a PM and I can get you one!
