A "Cool" house party!
My husband and I have been COMPLETELY remodeling a house for the past 2 years. We recently decided that when it's done we'll put it on the market and move to a home that better suits us. I know it's for the best but it'll be a bit depressing too. Anyways....I'd love to throw a "House COOLING Party" for those of our friends and family that wish to see the finished product. Has anyone ever been to such an event? I'm trying to come up with cute ideas to do at such an event and what the invite should say.

Re: A "Cool" house party!
I agree that you don't really need a theme, I think the invite could have some sort of cute explanation about why it's a house colling party.
But if you're looking for "cool" ideas, what if you have of ice-related foods? Frozen drinks, shrimp on ice, ice cream or popsicles for dessert.
GL!
I like the frozen foods idea. I'm going to break out the slushi machine for the occassion!
I don't really understand why everyone works so hard to try and change others minds on here. I basically state that I want a theme party and asked for help with ideas and everyone says "no, you don't need a theme party". No one needs a theme....I said I wanted one...why is that a crime?! Just because you don't have an idea doesn't mean you have to be non supportive. It's not just my post...it's a lot of posts I've been looking at. And no, I'm not upset, not mad, not a ***... I'm just pointing out!
Whoa! I'm sorry that you feel like this board has not been suportive. I am not taking this personally, rather I really value this board - I've gotten lots of great ideas and I think that it is one of the less snarky boards on the Nest, so I wanted to respond to your post.
Due to the nature of these boards, people put out ideas and opinions and other people respond - you can like it or not. It isn't a crime to have a theme - if that is what you would like to do, then you really should do it!! We all responded that you have a cute idea! :-)
Another thing that might help you get more specific answers is to ask very specific questions. For example, "what to do" can be read as you want advice on what activities to plan for your guests or it can be that you want ideas on how to decorate w/ your theme.
I hope that you have a fantastic party! Let us know how it goes!
To be the opposite of a house warming, I think you need something about the party that essentially makes the home less of a warm, inviting place to be, if that makes sense. I'm blanking on what that may be, short of letting everyone take some thing from the home when they go. But that's weird.
Otherwise, I'm not sure people will make the connection-- house cooling as opposed to house warming.
Dang it!!! I love the winter theme. I wished this party would be falling in that season. I'd go along with it anyway but I think people would be pretty annoyed at a winter like party as spring finally hits after a horrible illinois winter!
As for the taking something home thing... It does seem really weird. But when I googled such an idea that's what they suggested too... Such as setting up kinda a giveaway/garage sale like table for things you don't want to move. I like the idea of getting rid of things I don't want to mess with....but yet seems odd at a party!
Thanks for the ideas and kind words of encouragment!
A House Cooling Party, is usually when someone is leaving the residence. Maybe instead, you could say "Our house is now remodeled, now we need your help turning our house into a home. To do that it takes good friends like you. Like a cup of hot chocolate in the winter time, the warmth of your friendship fills our house and hearts too. Please come to our "Cool" House Party!
