Re: DSLR

  • I'd stick with Nikon or Canon.  I shoot with a D90, but it is probably too advanced/expensive for an entry level DSLR.  Assuming you are looking for an entry level...check out the Nikon D3000.  If you have a little more to spend, take a look at the Nikon D5000.  Also check out the Rebel series by Canon...all very good cameras.

I've read good things on DPReview about the Pentax k-x.  I don't know much about it, but people in various forums have been recommending it as an entry level DSLR with more features, as well.

It all comes down to reading reviews, deciding what you plan to shoot primarily and what features are important, and deciding on a price range for yourself.  DPReview has a ton of very in depth reviews and sample images from a variety of cameras.  Check them out.

  • We also have the Nikon D90 and love it. We just use it for us and still have a lot to learn about it, but it's been wonderful so far. We are a Nikon family (everyone in my family has Nikon's) and they are great cameras.
  • I have a canon XSI and love it.

Go to the photograghy board- they are very helpful! You have to access it through the bump though

  • I bought my camera through Ritz Photography and they offer free photo classes to people when they buy DSLRs. I'm not sure if you have one near you, but, it's worth looking into.

I think a Nikon or Canon are your best bet.  They offer the largest range of lenses and are the most reputable in the field.
