Wine & Jazz Fundraising Event
I am coordinating a wine and jazz fundraising event for my daughter's school at a local winery. we're planning to just serve hor doerves and, of course, wine. the school is a non-profit and really doesnt have any money to spare, so im wondering if the board could take on "catering" ourselves. we're hoping to get about 50 people. What i need is help determining how much food we would need and ideas of what kind of food to serve. TIA
Re: Wine & Jazz Fundraising Event
You shouldnt need to put together too much. Wine & Cheese - yum... smaller tasty goodies will be okay, but there is no need to have too many variations or too much to offer. a couple of pieces per person is more than sufficient. For those who are not culinarily inclined, cheese slices and fruit cut up could work. Perhpas those ham & Cheese spirals?
If someone will be going around serving these, you can time them so there isn't a whole bunch of food out at one time. Also, someone serving it will keep people from piling up a plate and only grabbing onsies or twosies of something.
Before taking on the catering: make sure the winery knows you are non-profit, they may offer discounts. Be sure the winery will let you bring in your own food.
I would think a group of people could pull this off, but it might be worth checking other avenues. Costco, Sam's Club, GFS. You might hit up caterers or grocery stores to see if they would be willing to supply cheap or free food. Maybe offer signage or a poster of sponsors.
Add also see if the school has access to reduced prices, use of their kitchen, whatnot. Oddly our local hospital is one of the best caterers in town. Look into these sorts of things before paying or taking this on yourself.
It might also be worth asking corporations for sponsors in return for listing them in a program or on a posterboard.
My friends are involved with a fundraiser like this through their kids school and we go every year. They have local restaurants come out and provide food. I have no idea what the cost/arrangement is, but they get to advertise and hand out coupons for their resturants. Maybe there are some local restaurants/markets that cater that would be interested in getting involved?
