Help- won't take bottle or cup anymore

I suppose it's my own fault- he's rarely gotten one since I BF. ?But he's never, ever refused it when given one. ?DH tried to give him a bottle twice and I've been trying to give him the Nuby cup for a few days and no luck. ?The bottle, he just flat out refuses. ?The sippy cup, he wants to beat the crap out of everything with.

Just a phase or should I be concerned? ?The only reason I am concerned is that I plan to start weaning after his 1st birthday and I'm afraid he's going to have a really, really hard time. ?He is *such* a booby baby. ?This also concerns me because if he won't take a bottle or a cup, I feel bad if I leave him with DH when I go out, because he won't eat (though he did eat some oatmeal tonight...)??

WDYT? ?Just keep trying or don't force the issue right now?

Re: Help- won't take bottle or cup anymore

  • I think it's just a phase. I also think that he will drink when he is thirsty enough, and he'll eat when he's hungry enough, even if he is with your DH. Don't sweat it!
  • I agree with Heather in that it's probably the first of many phases with food that Ben will go through.  Back off of offering the cup for a week or so and then try offering it to him again......he'll forget all about the act that he's on a "cup strike" by then!  This is what I do with Jakob when he goes on strike from a particular food once in awhile and it usually works!
  • Those seem like good answers, how great to have experienced mamas around here to help out!  Good luck with the cup thing Jeanette!  Owen hasn't really gotten the hang of the sippy cup yet, but he holds his own bottle fine, but he won't hold up a sippy cup like that.

  • I think it is a phase too...I wouldn't force it, you don't want meal time to become a battle ground. When I left Austin with my parents yesterday to go to the doctors, he refused to take a bottle from them...the way I see it is, he goes 6-8 hours at night before eating, so if he refuses a bottle he will be just fine until I get home...he may get grumpy, but he'll be fine :)
