yum! popcorn

I made organic popcorn (from the bulk section of the grocery store) on the stove today and it was so much better then microwave. I used my wok pan which has a clear lid so it was really easy to tell when it was done. Of course, it took more then 3 minutes, but more kernels were popped and no burnt pieces.

Re: yum! popcorn

  • I love my hot air popper. Microwave popcorn tastes weird.
  • I love stovetop popcorn, it's the only way we make it now.  Tastes great with just a little salt.

  • Stove top popcorn is the way to go!  There are so many yummy things you can do to it that you can't do in an air popper or in microwave popcorn.

    For example:

cooking the corn in coconut oil, olive oil, or chili oil

OK, well maybe that's about it.  But that's a good enough reason for me!  I make ours in a Whirly Pop, which I mostly love (sometimes the wires at the bottom make fingernails on chalkboard noises, until I screech and have Jeff fix the popper).

My two favorite ways of making popcorn are to rinse the Whirley Pop out with water and to put in a bunch of salt without drying the pan.  Then I add the oil and popcorn and pop it.  The salt seems to stick to the popcorn better that way.  It's good enough that we usually don't end up buttering it.  The other best way is to make it without salt, and to make browned butter to pour over the popcorn; then salt and sprinkle with nutritional yeast.

  • Yum! DH and I love "real" popcorn. The microwave crap is gross. We always use coconut oil to pop it in and add a bit of super fine salt. It tastes amazing and is a lot healthier than the microwave stuff.
