What's your favorite Tomotato and jalepeno seed?
I see so many names for tomatoes and japepenos and wonder if you had a favorite. Also, do you have any tips for a beginning gardener?
Re: What's your favorite Tomotato and jalepeno seed?
I haven't done them successfully from seeds yet, but my favorite tasting tomatoes are Black Krims and Cherokee Purples. Very meaty and delicious. Romas are plentiful and great for sauces. Firecrackers, Siberian, and Mountain Princess are early producers. Green Zebras are pretty and have a great tangy taste.
Rareseeds.com has descriptions of all the varieties. The first 3 and siberians I've grown with great success from seedlings.
My favorite tomatoes are Sweet 100s. They're a sweet cherry tomato. I don't grow jalepenos so I can't recommend anything there. I prepare the soil for my veggies with lots of compost.
My yard doesn't get enough sun for a bumper crop of bigger tomatoes like Cherokee Purple (those are fantastic, though). My favorite, therefore, is Sungold. They are orange-ish cherry tomatoes that give me a good crop. They are good for snacking, over-drying, salads, pasta salads.
I don't grow jalepenos, but I love Thai Dragon hot peppers! We dry them when they are red as well as eat them fresh.
My tip? Be sure you know your site well before you invest a lot of time & money into building beds or whatever. Also: Spend more time & money on your soil than your plants.
Good luck!
I don't really have a favorite tomato plant - I like experimenting with different varieties each year.
However we always grow "Mucho Nacho" jalapenos and have found them to be excellent growers and producers.
