I'm new here! Still a Knottie, but I believe this is the most appropriate place to ask this question. Also, forgive me if this has been posted before, I tried searching and didn't come up with anything. 

I am thinking of switching to Seasonique after being on a "regular" BCP for almost 6 years. I have always had trouble with heavy periods, bad cramping, and bloating. Also, most currently, tampons have been causing irritation.

So, has anyone been using Seasonique and if so, how do you like it? Any reason why I shouldn't switch?

My FI and I use two forms of BC, so we don't need the assurance of me having a period to prove that I'm not pregnant (if that makes sense).

I tried Seasonique for about 6 months and my advice to you would be to only use Seasonique if you are patient, willing to wait long-term for results (aka: no periods), and okay with random and annoying spotting.

I waited for 6 months for the spotting to go away, and instead of having "no periods" it seemed like I just had a never-ending little spot here and there and ruined panties, etc. Nothing ever heavy or even close to a real period, but definitely enough that felt uncomfortable at the grocery store and I would only wear black panties. My gyno kept saying that it would eventually go away but I didn't feel like waiting for the magical day that I didn't have a period anymore. 

All my friends who have the Mirena IUD say that they don't have a period and it went away within a few weeks of having it.

I take a generic version and love it! Unlike PP I didn't have a problem with spotting at all. I have been on it for about 4 years now and haven't ever had a problem. In fact, it's even made my periods( when I do get them) a lot shorter. They went from a week on normal BCP to three days. And it's much much lighter. The only thing- if you don't have insurance, it can be really expensive since it's a few months at a time.

I took it for years and absolutely loved it.

No spotting at all.

I'm not on Seasonique, but I am on the pill continuously, i.e. I only get my period a few times a year and when I feel like it.

Almost any pill brand can be used the same way Seasonique is used (to hold off the period so it only comes 4 times a year, or even less than 4 times if you like). Your doctor will write the prescription for "continuous use" so you are eligible to refill it after three weeks, not four. I'm just telling you this so you don't limit your options to just Seasonique, as you can do this with almost any pill brand.

I've been on it for a couple of years & really like it.  The first pack my doc told me to take 6 weeks and then go off from it for a week so that I could have a period.  The week after that we had to use a condom.  The second pack I took straight through, no problem.  I've had spotting maybe 3 days out of the whole 3 months & it wasn't enough to really even be bothersome.  

My only negative is that my cup size increased a little over a full cup.  This could be good or bad, just depending on who you are

Sounds like I should give it a shot! Thank you all for your honest opinions. 

I will talk to my doctor about using Seasoniqe vs. using continuous BCPs and see which she recommends for me. Either way, I'm glad there are more options in case one doesn't work out.

Okay, you totally made my day by suggesting that there COULD be a possibility of increasing my cup size. My 32A bras need some filling

I was on it over a year and I loved it.  I have migraines around my period so my Dr. decided that less periods = less migraines and it did.  I didn't have anymore spotting issues than when I switched "normal" bcps

I tried it about a year and a half ago. It made me crazy lol. I cried a lot and was irritated at the whole world. I stuck it out for three packs but my body just did not like it. I started it because I liked the idea of not having a period every month but I guess it was too strong for me. Like PPs, I spotted a lot too. Currently I'm not on BC and my husband and I are using NFP to avoid getting pregnant.

Somebirdseatsseeds, sorry it didn't work out for you! I actually called my Dr. yesterday and we decided that Seasonique Lo (its on the newer side) would work best since I'm used to a lower dose of estrogen in my other BCPs. I'm hoping this will help minimize the side effects. I guess its worth a shot

I have been on Seasonique for years and love it! For the first 2 months I did experience PMS like symptoms (crying, anger) but am fine now.  I haven't had my period since I began (my doctor said it was OK to skip the week every 3 months).  While I was on other BC I had continuous spotting.  On Seasonique it has occurred but only rarely.  I am very sensitive and will spot if I am off by more than 15 minutes taking the pill but I just set my phone to ring when I need to take it.
