Has anyone used Ikea for their kitchen cabinets? We are looking into using them and was just curious what other's experience has been. If you used their contractors? Did any of the work yourself? Etc.
TIA!
Re: Ikea Kitchen?
Our friend/realtor/home improvement friend used these in his own kitchen and said they were the easiest cabinets he's installed. Don't have many other details for you - sorry!
We were thinking of using IKEA cabinets for the Man Cave's kitchenette, but we will probably go with unfinished cabinets from the Building Materials Outlet in Eagan. $340 versus $850 is a no brainer for us! $80 for any base, $60 for any wall cabinet. We'll stain them ourselves - that's the only down side. But I'll gladly do that to save $500 on 5 cabinets!

We often browse/shop the Builders Materials Outlet that Angela mentioned... they have CHEAP pricing, but the styles aren't as modern as what you can find at Ikea, and you have to finish them with stain or paint.
I haven't heard much about Ikea's cabinets.. the 2 people I know that have them don't have any complaints. I have read MANY complaints about Ikea's butcher block countertops, though, so just an FYI on that (even though you didn't mentioned wanting those anyway).

The BMO actually does have pre-finished cabinets that do look modern, very much like IKEA's simple framed style, but you have to piece them together to find what you need. We wanted to get their pre-finished cabinets, but we only found bases in a couple sizes and wall cabinets in other sizes. If you're flexible and don't need many, it works - but it's probably tougher to do an entire kitchen that way. Their inventory changes every day though, so you could always check back. We found the prices for pre-finished cabinets to be about the same for the medium brown style from IKEA.

Funny! I've never seen the pre-finished cabinets there! I most likely have been there on days where they didn't have the finished ones.. which obviously speaks to the fact that the inventory is constantly changing!

Great a/s on 11/16/12 - It's a girl!
My sister just put them in her kitchen in Chicago and loves them. Easy to install, look great, etc.
