Marriage Certificate

We were married last October and still haven't received our marriage certificate.  How long did it take for you all to receive your marriage certificate?   I thought that all we had to do was make sure our officiant sent in the license after the ceremony. Is there something I was supposed to do that I am not remembering?

TIA!

Re: Marriage Certificate

  • When you applied for your marriage license, did you request that a certificate be sent to you and pay the $12 or whatever it is? I ask because we hadn't received ours, and it turns out that you have to specify you want a copy and pay for it when you file for the license. I know it sounds simple enough, but the person who helped us didn't mention it and we incorrectly assumed we would receive it. In fact, she said you will get your certificate after we receive the license from your officiant, and still failed to mention we should pay for the certificate right then and there or we wouldn't get it. HTH.

  • Thanks for the info, starsailorr.

I don't think we did pay the extra $12, but I will go back and look at the paperwork.  I don't recall the woman saying anything about paying $12 to receive it.

How did you end up getting a copy of your certificate?

How did you end up getting a copy of your certificate?

I went back to the registrar's office in Norwalk and paid for the certified copy.

  • Thanks, Star.  I wasn't sure if we had to go back in person or could order one online.  I'll just head back to the registrar.
  • You may be able to check online, I didn't because I needed it right away. Good luck.

  • i sent mine in with a check. i made the check in the amount of copies i wanted. i think they raised the price to $15 each. The officiant mailed it in January but it got stained from the rain and we had to request for a duplicate. We just got our certificates yesterday. HTH.
  • We had to go to the registrar to pay for a certified copy and pick it up.
