CD mamas
Help! We are having leaking issues. We're doing the jelly roll fold with the snappi and cover and we still have a leak at least once a day. Not sure what it is we're doing wrong. I don't wanna give up on CDs but this is a bit ridiculous. From what I've read, most people never have leaks!

We don't use CDs (yet, I was waiting until I got the hang of mommyhood). What kind of leaks are you talking about? Poop or pee?
I'm really hoping that the CDs end our poo-splosion issues.

I'm definitely no expert but we haven't had any major leaks yet, how is the poop/pee getting out? is it leaking out the cover from the legs or top or do you think the cover itself isn't working?
The only time we had a leak it was from the pee wicking and that is b/c MH didn't make sure the diaper was fully inside the cover and it came out the top and got his night gown wet. Grrr.
When I use prefolds and snappis I guess the fold I do is called angel wing. I just looked up the name - It's just how my mom showed me. Not sure if it's different for boys/girls but that one seems to make a little pocket for his poops (I have only had it get on a cover a couple of times) and the triple absorbency up front is good for pee. It looks about like a jelly roll through, so I don't know if the fold is really making a difference... My mom keeps telling me how important getting it on tight and I think that helps a lot, because MH's changes (with fitteds and PFs) are always a little iffy and I'm surprised we haven't had more accidents
What type of prefolds are you using and how often do you change her? We have GMD prefolds and use the angel wing fold which gives the the triple layer in the front. We just lay him on the unfolded diaper then trifold the front and pull it up and snappi. I guess that's the same as the angel wing.) We haven't had any leaks. We do get poop on the cover every day or two if he's got a big poop. We change every two hours or so, and he's usually pretty soaked by then.
We're using OsoCozy Indian Cotton Prefolds (unbleached) with snappis and Thirsties Covers...we've had NO leaks except for once when Joseph didn't get the cover COMPLETELY over the PF...the elastic has to encase the PF or else it wicks pee pee (we always double check the leg gussets and the waist/back now). We've gotten poop on the gusset elastics (on the inside) but it's never made its way onto her clothing or bedding and for me...that is the goal! We just handwash/dry the covers and the poop comes out.
My mom does the jelly roll but J and I just do the angel wing fold...we fold any excess length down in the back to trap poop but Libby has grown so much the PFs are the right length now (and she's out of her XS Thisties and now into her S ones and all of the snap on her Duo 1 are open now too).

One piece of advice, make sure you snug the cover fairly tightly...it will loosen up a bit...we were making them too loose at first which is when we had some "close calls" with explosive poop (it got to the outside of the legs on the PF and nearly out of the gusset...)

Did you prep your PFs? They need to be washed several times before they are primed to absorb fully. To get the maximum absorbtion they should be washed/dried in hot water like 3-5 times! Did you do this before using them? If not, then that could be the issue. We prepped ours by boiling them for 20 minutes with a little Ivory Liquid Soap (to cut the natural oils in the cotton) and then washed them in our washer twice. This was going to be my next question - like Lori said, they don't really hit maximum absorbency unless they're washed multiple times before they're used.
I washed them 5x in hot water. =/
We change Bella every 2-3 hours, she's a peeing machine! Guess that means she gets plenty of milk
We do the angel wing fold with a snappi and a thirsties cover. Never any pee leaks, only a few poop leaks (she poops every few days and EXPLODES!).
I would say if your PF are prepped and you are getting a tight (not too tight) fit with the covers then maybe you aren't changing her often enough... You could add a hemp liner in too... that helped us at night!
