Downtown Bar

I've been tasked with thinking of a good place for a friend to celebrate a birthday.  Normally, this wouldn't be a problem. . .but they want a downtown bar that's good for a group and not filled with douchebags on a Friday night.

Help me out!  We checked out Kung Fu Saloon on Saturday night (briefly) and it wasn't the place.  One of my friends is on a self-imposed break from Star Bar.  I am SO not hip on what's cool downtown, but I think that because I work near downtown, I have been deemed an expert. 

Places I normally like include the Draught House, if that helps steer you in the right direction!

there are a bunch of "hip" (ie: hipster) bars east side of downtown that are good -one that comes to mind is shangri-la

Key Bar has a nice outdoor firepit but I'm not sure it's the vibe you are going for.

If you want the 6th street feel, but a classier club you can try Molotov. You can reserve a big booth for your group, and if you get there early enough it is pretty low key compared to the majority of 6th.
