Hello ladies, my family and I will be visiting San Antonio in March and are looking for some good food. Nothing too expensive or fancy since we will bringing young kids. We will have a car so a little bit of a drive is ok.
Re: Best SA restaurants??
I really can't remember how expensive it is (you might be able to find prices online somewhere), and I wouldn't necessarily call it one of the best restaurants, but The Rainforest Cafe down on the Riverwalk is super fun and a great place to take kids to. I thought their food was still good, but not like out of this world yummy.
La Fogata is pretty popular and has pretty good Mexican food. I feel like it gets more hype than it should, but it's not too expensive and has a good atmosphere.
One of my favorite Mexican restaurants is one I actually worked at for a summer. It's called Cielito Lindo and it's up in the Stone Oak area. It has really good authentic Mexican (not tex-mex). Prices aren't too bad, and there's a nice patio area you could sit at if the weather is ok.
You could try looking over the list on this website: http://www.urbanspoon.com/lb/39/best-restaurants-San-Antonio
I feel like that's a pretty good list actually (oh and Magnolia Pancake Haus is really good for breakfast/brunch. If you go though expect a super long wait unless you have reservations)
I love Willie's for Burgers.
Oh, and I think Rudy's is pretty good for BBQ.
I had my rehearsal dinner at Tomatillo's too!
I also recommend all of the above mexican places. If it's nice weather when you're here, definitely go to La Hacienda and sit at the patio with a margarita! Another hidden place is Scenic Loop Cafe. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere (NW San Antonio) but they've got a great menu, a patio to sit on and a HUGE playground for the kids. I think they also have live music at times. LOVE it there.
Really?? That's too cool!!! We had SUCH a great time there and the food was delicious. My SIL and her fam and my FIL and his g/f are coming for Spring Break in March. We all plan to head to Tomatillo's for a "reunion."
I've never been to Scenic Loop Cafe. Where is it?? Sounds great! My nephew is young, so that might be a great place. Have you been to Momak's? They have a huge playground for kids, as well... but I'm not a huge fan of the food.
Scenic Loop Cafe is off of Boerne Stage road. If you're on i10, head outside 1604 and take a left on Boerne Stage Rd. Follow it until it intersects with Scenic Loop Rd and the Cafe will be on the corner. It feels like you're driving in the country, but you can't miss it. The "cafe" is huge! DH and I decided to splurge the first time we went. We ordered the fried ice cream for dessert. Um, with the brownie! It takes more than two spoons! You really need 4 to finish it! Go to scenicloopcafe (dot) com to get more directions.
Never been to Momaks. Heard it has a great playground, but I don't have kids yet, so I don't really loop for those type of places on purpose.
Awesome! We'll have to check it out. I love going to new places. Never had fried ice cream, either... sounds fabulous!!
We only went because we heard they had fantastic burgers. The burgers were just OK and I felt like the whole place was over-run with kids. Plus, my DH had just had his wisdom teeth out and asked for a spoon with his malt - they were like, "We don't have any." Umm... can't you *clean* some?? We have not been back since....
Really? They were out of SPOONS? I'm not sure I'd go back there either!
Oh, if anyone's into sushi, I LOVE Godai on West Avenue near Blanco.
