Crystal deodorant is bad?

I was talking to my SIL's mom (she's very into being EF) and told me that Crystal deodorant is bad because it contains aluminum. Here is the article she sent me. I have no idea what to use now.

Re: Crystal deodorant is bad?

  • I didn't read your link but I happened to research this yesterday.  It does not have aluminum, but it does have alum.  From what I gathered, aluminum makes positive and negative bonds.  Whichever kind alum is isn't dangerous and is not absorbed in the skin.  Aluminum itself can be absorbed, and that's where the danger is.
  • Your right that it contains alum, but the site above says, "The aluminum in deodorant stones is a different type of compound known as alum, the most common form being potassium alum, also known as potassium aluminum sulfate."
  • Yes, there are aluminum molecules in the alum compound, but the compound is too big to be absorbed by the skin.
  • i just use plain coconut oil and it works wonders!  i have the crystal deodorant too but it stings like a mother after i shave Crying

So I've read, but I don't believe for a second that we understand to a point of certainly how human skin works and what it can and can't absorb.  I've been using and advocating Crystal deoderant for awhile now, I'm really disappointed by this.  Crying The marketing is so sneaky too.  I look at the packaging at WF on Sat, and the sticker says "No harmful aluminums"  not "no aluminum."  Grrr... I've seen an Arm & Hammer baking soda deoderant that i'm going to research, but the ingredient list is a mile long, who knows what's in all that?
