Relocating to LA -- Hello LA Nesties!!!
Hello Ladies!
I have been visiting your local page for a couple months now, and can now finally introduce myself as a future LA resident!!
My husband is getting relocated, and we're planning on moving in early May.
I'm wondering if any of you might have suggestions of good areas or resources to find a home to rent. His office is in El Segundo, and so we don't want to be too far from there. And we definitely want a free-standing house.
Any other tips you might have would be so appreciated. I'm so excited for the adventure, and would love to hear some of your favorite things about the area.
Cheers!!!
Re: Relocating to LA -- Hello LA Nesties!!!
As far as a nice area I would look at Santa Monica, and El Segundo. If you can afford it check out the beach cities like Venice and Redondo Beach. Torrance and Gardena are close to El Segundo and have nice areas but like anywhere else, not so nice areas as well. Some of the areas just outside of El Segundo aren't very family friendly. The only real tip I can offer is try to find a home near his job because the commute in LA can be horrible.
As far as living in LA, it's awesome and I wouldn't live anywhere else. You can go to the beach, the mountains or the desert all in one day. There are always tons of things to see and do, and you can have yummy authentic food from your choice of restaurants.
El Segundo is great in my opinion. I grew up there and it is very family friendly. I am now in Westchester, which also has some good areas and some not so good areas. As soon as we can buy, we hope to buy in El Segundo.
Some other nice areas that are close by are the beach cities, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach. Also Playa del Rey or Marina del Rey as well as some areas of Culver City. Santa Monica is also nice but the commute can be not so nice at all (I went to school there and traveled from ES).
As far as resources you can try Westsiderentals.com (but you have to pay), craig'slist.com, I have found the best place to look is in the local paper though. For El Segundo it is The El Segundo Herald, or you can try the Daily Breeze, or The Beach Reporter. I don't believe most of them are online though so this would only work once you were already here.
This is all great information -- thank you so much!
We really liked El Segundo as well -- the Main Street is adorable and seems family friendly.
We're also considering one of the beach towns -- it's more expensive, but we're moving from Minneapolis....so we're pretty excited to be so close to the ocean
I'll definitely take a peek at the local papers - great insider tip!
Thanks again for your advice - we're really looking forward to making a home in CA!
