I would like to switch off of sponges b/c of all the bacteria and also reduce the amount of paper towels we use. I was thinking the microfiber cloths were a good option, but I don't know much about it. What do you ladies use? I would rather do a load of dish towels then keep up what our habit was.
Re: Microfiber Cloths
I bought a big pack of microfiber cloths from an auto parts store. I use those for cleaning around the house, and I stick them on my Swiffer for cleaning the floors wet or dry.
In the kitchen I mostly use dish cloths for wiping up spills, and Dobie pads for washing dishes (they are washable).
We use a plastic-based scrub-brush for washing dishes, but other than that we use rags made from old, holey T-shirts. That gave something worn out new life rather than purchasing virgin fabric. Here is my blog entry on it (with pics). Many of our cloths are over two years old and we've only had 2-3 get too worn out to keeon using, and then--since they were 100% cotton--we could compost them.
