Guess what I might be getting....

Big Smile

She's an airedale terrier and I would definitely post pics if I wasn't afraid of jinxing myself... but I'm not jinxing myself if I post pics of one of the parents, right?

So... many of you know that M is allergic to dogs. We have been talking about getting one seriously for 2 months, and we found a girl that is a breed he most likely isn't allergic to. He's going to go check her out this weekend and get locked in a confined area with both the parents to see if he has a reaction, and then if he doesn't we can have her!!

My worst fear is that he goes to pick her up, finds out he's allergic, and then we don't get her. But 99% of the time, if the person is not allergic to the parents (and trust me, he's going to like bury his face in both of their fur for an hour so there are no mistakes) he won't be allergic to the puppy. Apparently you can't even tell if you're allergic to a dog until they're full grown, so you can't even really tell when they're puppies. Just to be safe, he needs to spend time around the parents.

Just wanted to share the exciting news. Wish me luck that it works out!!

  • Oh honey that would be fantastic!  I so hope that it works out that he isn't allergic to the Mom and Pop.  What kind of reaction does he normally have?

  • Woot!!  I hope you get a snuggly puppy soon and M has no allergies.  If his allergies are mild, he could always (if he's willing) get the shot.  I have a friend who does this b/c she loves dogs so much but is allergic.

  • What an adorable face!  Does this breed shed much?
  • Ooooh that picture just melts my heart!  I hope everything works out!
  • Thanks guys! I'm so, so excited about the possibility. We will know on Sunday if we are pet owners.

M gets choked up and just like sniffly when he's around certain dogs. It's not pleasant. I think he's going to look into the shot to help as well.

They don't shed a lot -- These ones are supposed to be the best for people with allergies - even though they have a lot of hair, they rarely shed and don't have dander like other pets.

We both want a new member of the fam ... so I am really really hoping this works out!

  • Aww yay! Hopefully you can get her!
  • How exciting! I hope DH is not allerigic, a puppy brings so much joy into a family!
  • AW!  Poochie-poo.  So cute.  Here's hoping that he doesn't have a reaction.  Pet allergies suck; that's why I don't have kitties!
  • That is so exciting! My parents had an Airedale terrier and he was amazing. I definitely want an Airedale when we are able to get a dog. We kept him fluffy like the one in your picture. Airedales are pretty mellow, very loyal and great with little kids! I hope you get one, good luck
