Thoughts about palm sugar?

DH started using palm sugar instead of sugar in the raw because it doesn't raise his blood sugar as high and then bottom him out (lower glycemic index). Anyone know about how green palm sugar is, or how horrible? I was just curious.

Re: Thoughts about palm sugar?

  • I should add, the package has the following statements:

    USDA Organic

    Big Tree Farms Sustainably Sourced

    Distributed by SweetTree Sustainable Sweeteners

    Product of Indonesia

  • Organic and sustainably sourced makes me happy! I wasn't sure if palm sugar had the same issues as palm oil (killing orangutans). I checked out their website and it sounds delicious! Where do you buy it?

It seems like a good company.

  • We found it next to the cane sugar and sugar substitutes at our local grocery store. I wondered about the palm oil thing too.
  • To me...I would still email or contact the company.

The words "Product of Indonesia" raise a flag.

That's what I think of when I think of orangutans too. ;D
