Is a freezer more energy efficient than a refrigerator?
We have a second fridge in the basement which I believe is using a lot of energy, but I'm not sure how much (can't find the tag). We almost never use the fridge part, only the freezer, so I was thinking of replacing it with a small chest freezer. WDYT?
Re: Is a freezer more energy efficient than a refrigerator?
I believe chest freezers are more efficient than upright freezers. I'm not sure how they compare to a fridge/freezer combo, though. Can you turn the fridge setting to zero, and only use the freezer?
You could also probably google the model number and find out how much energy it's taking.
I researched it and it seems like a small-ish chest freezer would use about half the energy my fridge uses. I guess I could always turn the fridge off. Ugh, I don't know.
I use the fridge part maybe twice a year, and I think I can get by without it. But I'm not 100% sure, lol.
