Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, the Nets' prospective owner, lost the
$53
million deposit he put down on Villa Leopolda, a clifftop mansion on the French
Riviera that is reportedly the world's most expensive home,
according
to ABC News' website.Prokhorov,
who
is awaiting NBA approval to become the Nets' new owner, had made a 10
percent deposit on the
$530 million property but backed out in 2008 as the
global financial crisis worsened. A French court ruled Monday he would not get
that money back. The same day,
a
New York judge ruled against opponents of the Atlantic Yards project in
Brooklyn, putting the Nets a step closer to moving to a new home there in
2012.
When
The
Star-Ledger caught up with Prokhorov at the Vancouver Olympics two weeks
ago, he was more focused on the performance of the Russian biathlon team than
anything else, and refused to discuss his future with the Nets.

That is INSANE! At least the forfeited money will go to charity.
